What is an Eco-School?<\/h1>\n

The aim of the Eco-Schools programme is to make environmental awareness and action a part of the life and ethos of the nursery for both children, parents and staff, and to engage the wider community.<\/h5>\n

What Does This Involve?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Every year children are chosen to be on the Eco Committee. This is a special job and the Eco Committee are responsible for setting targets for the whole nursery. We make plans for 2 years and develop different topics to take action. After two years we apply for a Green Flag and Eco Schools will inspect our work and award a Green Flag.<\/p>\n

What areas do Eco-Schools cover?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Eco schools programme involves exploring the following 10 Topics.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Litter
\n\u2022 Waste Minimisation
\n\u2022 Energy
\n\u2022 Water
\n\u2022 Health and Well-being
\n\u2022 Biodiversity
\n\u2022 School Grounds
\n\u2022 Sustaining our World
\n\u2022 Transport
\n\u2022 Food and the Environment<\/p>\n

For the next two years, our chosen topics are Litter, Biodiversity & Transport<\/p>\n

What will we be Learning?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Whilst taking action on our chosen topics we will be learning<\/p>\n

Different types of litter,\u00a0Dangerous litter,\u00a0How to look after our community through litter picking and how litter is collected and where it goes.<\/p>\n

\u00a0As part of our learning about biodiversity, the children will explore living things, where they live and what they eat. They will grow plants, food and learn about the importance of flowers for our wildlife. The children will join campaigns such as wildlife spotters or save the bees.<\/p>\n

The children will take part in lots of transport themed activities such as recording how they get to nursery, learning about different types of transport, experiencing different types of transport and taking part in Walk to School Week.\"\"<\/p>\n

How can you help your child be aware of environmental issues?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Litter<\/strong><\/p>\n

Children are very aware of their surroundings and often see litter on the streets and in parks. You can: Discuss littering with your child. Encourage the use of litter bins. Give reasons why we should not drop litter<\/p>\n

Biodiversity<\/strong><\/p>\n

We will be learning about how animals depend on each other, where they live and what they eat. Have conversations when you are out and about, what animals do you see? where do they live? etc.<\/p>\n

Transport<\/strong><\/p>\n

Your child will be learning about different types of transport and their environmental impact. You can support this at home by talking about different transport like the bus\/train when you are using them.\u00a0 Talk about what you see on your way to school, count the cars\/buses, etc.<\/p>\n
