Chemistry<\/strong> Physics<\/strong> All pupils in S1 and S2 follow a combined Science course, whic In S1, pupils work on a short Introduction to Science unit, followed by six separate topics, taught on a rotation basis<\/a>. In S2, pupils study a further five topics. There is an assessment at the end of each topic, incorporating Knowledge and Understanding and Problem Solving elements.<\/p>\n The six topics covered in S1 are:<\/p>\n Acids and Metals; Biodiversity; Cells and Body systems; Light and Beyond; Model of Matter; Space and Gravity.<\/p>\n The five topics covered in S2 are:<\/p>\n Powerful Stuff; DNA and Fertilisation; Energy and Heat; Chemical Reactions and Periodic Table; Microbes and You.<\/p>\n The booklets for these topics can be found below:<\/p>\n S1 Booklets<\/a> Occasionally pupils have the opportunity to research a TOPICAL ISSUE in science.\u00a0 In the past few years, this has included topics such as Ebola, Tsunamis and the COP 26 summit held in Glasgow.<\/p>\n More recently S1 have been involved in interdisciplinary learning about\u00a0Healthy Living<\/em>. In science S1 have been looking at the sugar content of foods along with measuring key health markers like pulse and blood pressure.<\/p>\n Homework is issued regularly. The work covers literacy and numeracy as well as science. S1 and S2 homework is contained in the OneDrive link below. Navigate the folders to find the homework relevant to the year group and topic you are on.<\/p>\n Homework<\/a><\/p>\n In S3 pupils are taught Biology, Chemistry and Physics by subject specialists.\u00a0 The pupils will make a choice towards the end of S2 about which two of the three discrete Sciences they would like to focus on in S3. Pupils are exposed to the Experiences and Outcomes of Curriculum for Excellence level 4.<\/p>\n Homework is issued regularly. The work covers literacy and numeracy as well as Science.<\/p>\n St Stephen’s science have been very lucky in being selected to be a part of a trial program with the University of Glasgow to trial a program to boost chemistry engagement. Science club members have been involved with this and recently they made their own lip balm!<\/p>\n My World of Work<\/a> is a website setup by skills development Scotland and it is designed to help people develop their career management skills.
