The Support for Learning Department supports equality of opportunity and values the range of interests, qualities and abilities of every learner. It aims to:

• promote, support and deliver an education of the highest quality to the school’s young people within a developing culture of inclusion
• ensure that every child and young person has access to educational opportunities which lead to success and further development of the individual’s learning potential
• provide an education which is appropriate to learning needs, is supportive of the young person and is delivered in partnership with young people, parents and the wider community
• support pupils through the process of Staged Intervention.

The role of the Support for Learning Department is to support young people who need it. There are 5 roles which are:

• Consultation with colleagues, external agencies, parents, etc
• Planning learning and teaching to aid overcoming learning barriers
• Identification and assessment of barriers to learning
• Partnership working with specialist services
• Continuing professional development and sharing expertise
