{"id":16,"date":"2018-12-10T16:44:10","date_gmt":"2018-12-10T16:44:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/in\/stpatricksprimary\/?page_id=16"},"modified":"2025-09-15T21:49:15","modified_gmt":"2025-09-15T21:49:15","slug":"our-learning-journey","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/in\/stpatricksprimary\/our-learning-journey\/","title":{"rendered":"OUR LEARNING JOURNEY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CURRICULUM FOR EXCELLENCE<\/p>\n<p>The curriculum framework for all Scottish educational establishments 3-18 is called Curriculum for Excellence.\u00a0 It is designed to provide the breadth and depth of education to develop flexible and adaptable young people with the knowledge and skills they will need to thrive now and in the future. It aims to support young people in achieving and attaining the best they possibly can to become s<strong>uccessful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During the broad general education, children and young people should:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>achieve the highest possible levels of literacy, numeracy and cognitive skills.<\/li>\n<li>develop skills for learning, skills for life and skills for work.<\/li>\n<li>develop knowledge and understanding of society, the world and Scotland&#8217;s place in it.<\/li>\n<li>experience challenge and success so that they can develop well-informed views and the four capacities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Curriculum is divided into 8 curricular areas.\u00a0 All of our lessons and learning activities are planned appropriately and ensure that children are given a variety of opportunities and experiences across all 8 areas. The areas are indicated below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Literacy and English<\/li>\n<li>Numeracy and Mathematics<\/li>\n<li>Health and Wellbeing<\/li>\n<li>Expressive Arts<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ltscotland.org.uk\/curriculumforexcellence\/publications\/Buildingthecurriculum1\/religiousandmoraleducation\/intro.asp\">Sciences<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Social Studies<\/li>\n<li>Technologies<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ltscotland.org.uk\/curriculumforexcellence\/publications\/Buildingthecurriculum1\/technologies\/intro.asp\">Religious<\/a> and Moral Education (Religious Education in Roman Catholic Schools)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The experiences and outcomes under Curriculum for Excellence are written at five levels, with progression to qualifications described under the senior phase.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Early Level<\/strong> \u2013 the pre-school years and P1, or later for some<\/li>\n<li><strong>First Level<\/strong> \u2013 to the end of P4, but earlier for some<\/li>\n<li><strong>Second Level<\/strong> \u2013 to the end of P7, but earlier for some<\/li>\n<li><strong>Third and Fourth<\/strong> \u2013 S1 to S3, but earlier for some<\/li>\n<li><strong>Senior phase<\/strong> \u2013 S4 \u2013 S6 and college or other means of study<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In St Patrick\u2019s learning is organised to encourage progression from one stage of learning to another.\u00a0 Teachers begin from where the child is and build upon his\/her existing knowledge and skills. \u00a0Active learning is very important.\u00a0 Children work in groups at times, and at times, individually.\u00a0 When pupils change classes, teachers liaise with one another to ensure children progress from year to year.<\/p>\n<p>Click on the link below to explore Curriculum for Excellence further<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/education-scotland\/scottish-education-system\/policy-for-scottish-education\/policy-drivers\/cfe-building-from-the-statement-appendix-incl-btc1-5\/what-is-curriculum-for-excellence\/\">Link to Curriculum for Excellence Information<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CURRICULUM FOR EXCELLENCE The curriculum framework for all Scottish educational establishments 3-18 is called Curriculum for Excellence.\u00a0 It is designed to provide the breadth and depth of education to develop flexible and adaptable young people with the knowledge and skills they will need to thrive now and in the future.
