ENROLMENT OF PUPILS TO PRIMARY 1
Updated information will be posted soon on 2021 arrangements for Primary 1 Enrolment
Parents are invited to enrol their child for school in January of the year in which children are due to start school. To start school in August 2021, children with a surname beginning with A-L should enrol on 13th January 2021, and children with a surname beginning with M-Z should enrol on 14th January 2021. Details may be found in local press, Church notices, social media or by contacting the school. Children by law are entitled to start their formal education at the beginning of the session in August if they are five years of age on or before the last day of February of the same school session.
Parents should enrol their child in the Primary School for which they are zoned. If a placing request to another school is being considered, then parents should inform the Head Teacher during enrolment in January. The necessary information and placing request forms can be found in the Inverclyde Council leaflet “Sending Your Child to School”. These can be supplied during enrolment upon request. Placing requests must be made to the Council by 1st February 2021.
Parents are requested to supply a copy of the Birth Certificate and Baptismal Certificate on enrolment day in January. Parents are also asked to provide appropriate documentation to confirm their current address; such as a copy of a current Council Tax bill, a lease agreement or a lawyer’s letter to show house purchase has been successful, and a recent utilities bill.
Arrangements can be made for parents to make a visit to the school by telephoning the school to meet with a member of the Senior Management Team.
Our transition programme from early years to Primary 1 ensures that the change from nursery to primary school is as smooth as possible and supports continued learning and progress.
During the summer term, we invite the new P1 entrants and their parents to visit the school on a number of occasions. This allows the children to get to know each other, as well as the school staff, and to become familiar with the Primary School environment. At this time, we give parents more information about St Patrick’s and about Primary 1 in particular. We also have our P6 Buddies visit our new entrants during the session before August entry.
