Primary 6 have been developing their talking & listening and writing skills through Talk for Writing. Children have memorised instructions on How to catch a House Goblin. They have created a story map and developed their knowledge of rhetorical questions. These activities have helped engage and support the children in their writing. The children will use what they have memorised to create their own set of instructions using the correct structure, layout, language , grammar and punctuation.
In maths and numeracy the children have been developing our knowledge of money and link this to real life contexts. We have been solving various money problems involving adding, subtracting multiplying and dividing. We have started learning about 2D and 3D shape and exploring these shapes in our environment. The last topic in maths we will cover this term is on fractions and using this to help us with percentages.
After finishing our Victorians topic at Christmas time, at the start of term 3 the children were developing their know of Scotland, particularly its landscapes and learning about mapping. We also had a particular focus on famous Scot Robert Burns. As a class, we have now started a new topic on Natural disasters, in which we will explore different types of extreme weather around the world.
