{"id":245,"date":"2020-02-27T11:21:43","date_gmt":"2020-02-27T11:21:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/in\/stmarysps\/?page_id=245"},"modified":"2020-02-27T11:51:12","modified_gmt":"2020-02-27T11:51:12","slug":"sciences","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/in\/stmarysps\/sciences\/","title":{"rendered":"Sciences"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sciences include experiences and outcomes in biological, chemical, physical and environmental contexts.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\">Through science education at St Mary\u2019s, we endeavour to stimulate, nurture and sustain the curiosity and wonder of our pupils.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Children and young people participating in the experiences and outcomes in the sciences will:<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 interact with their environment by observing, exploring, investigating and recording<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 develop skills of scientific inquiry and investigation using practical techniques<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 demonstrate a secure knowledge and understanding of the big ideas and concepts of the sciences<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 recognise the role of creativity and inventiveness in the development of the sciences<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 recognise the impact the sciences make on their lives, the lives of others, the environment and on society<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 develop an understanding of the Earth\u2019s resources and the need for responsible use of them<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 express opinions and make decisions on social, moral, ethical, economic and environmental issues based upon sound understanding<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 develop as scientifically literate citizens with a lifelong interest in the sciences<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 establish the foundation for more advanced learning and, for some, future careers in the sciences and the technologies.<\/p>\n<p>At St Mary\u2019s, we follow an agreed cluster programme of study for Science. We are looking at how closely this matches the outcomes for a Curriculum for Excellence and adapting our programme accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>The science outcomes are divided into Planet Earth; Forces, Electricity and Waves; Biological Systems; Materials and Topical Sciences.
