St Stephen’s High School Computing Science.
Computing Science is the biggest area of transition and development seen in this millennium so far. You can not even switch on the TV without activating a computer system, Digital TV is universal, Digital Radio continues to progress, Digital Images are the standard (Mr Coyne still occasionally uses his Polaroid) Digital Music on every device, it is Computing Science that creates that Digital application, Hardware and Software.
The aim of Computer Science is to enable pupils to acquire appropriate, transferable Computational thinking skills, knowledge and understanding – progression must feature in the acquisition of those Computing skills from First to Sixth year.
All staff should then feel confident that pupils have a basic level of Computing capability which can be applied to pupil’s learning in a specific area of the Curriculum. Pupils should feel confident enough with their transferable skills that they are encouraged to use unfamiliar software, explore new areas and forge their own future!
