{"id":1135,"date":"2021-09-30T08:07:39","date_gmt":"2021-09-30T08:07:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/in\/portglasgowhs\/?page_id=1135"},"modified":"2021-09-30T08:07:39","modified_gmt":"2021-09-30T08:07:39","slug":"history-higher","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/in\/portglasgowhs\/departments\/modern-studies\/humanities-subjects-courses\/history-higher\/","title":{"rendered":"History Higher"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><u>Description of Course<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Through the study of Modern History students will develop a knowledge and understanding of key events in Britain and globally.\u00a0 The course will foster and develop skills related to essay writing, research and evaluation, which are valuable in future vocations.<\/p>\n<p>The course units of study are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>British History: 1851 to 1951<\/li>\n<li>European and World History: Germany 1859 to 1959<\/li>\n<li>Scottish History: Migration and Empire 1850 to 1939<\/li>\n<li>Assignment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Teaching involves group discussions, whole class teaching, use of ICT and individual research.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Homework <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An average of around half an hour per evening &#8211; split between finishing class work, background reading and formal written essays (usually 1 per fortnight).<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Assessment <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The topics covered will be assessed using class assessments, essays and homework. Students must achieve the required standards in all 3 areas of study and submit an assignment on a topic of their choice.
