What is the Curriculum Improvement Cycle (CIC)?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Curriculum Improvement Cycle (CIC) is a systematic, ten-year programme led by Education Scotland to systematically review, co-create, and refresh the Scottish curriculum. The CIC was developed from recommendations contained within the 2021 OECD Review of Scottish Education which recognised the strengths of Curriculum for Excellence (CfE), and made a range of suggestions to ensure that this strength would persist into the future. The CIC aims to create a\u00a0planned, proactive, and evidence-based approach<\/strong> to curriculum review, ensuring coherence, clarity, and relevance for learners aged 3 to 18.<\/p>\n

What does this mean for practitioners?<\/h3>\n

The Curriculum Improvement Cycle is designed to ensure that Scotland\u2019s curriculum remains relevant, coherent and responsive to the changing needs of learners and society. A key feature of the CIC is its emphasis on collaboration and co-creation, with practitioners playing an important role in shaping future curriculum guidance.<\/p>\n

Over the ten-year cycle, curriculum areas will be reviewed and refreshed through engagement with teachers, early years practitioners, school leaders, learners, parents and a range of other stakeholders. This process will draw on research, evidence and feedback from practice to identify strengths, address challenges and support continuous improvement.<\/p>\n
