{"id":43,"date":"2019-02-22T16:19:49","date_gmt":"2019-02-22T16:19:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/in\/notredamenow\/?p=43"},"modified":"2019-02-23T20:50:01","modified_gmt":"2019-02-23T20:50:01","slug":"43","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/in\/notredamenow\/2019\/02\/22\/43\/","title":{"rendered":"Top of the League"},"content":{"rendered":"<section id=\"builder-section-text_11\" class=\"builder-section-first builder-section builder-section-text builder-section-last builder-section-full-width builder-text-columns-1 layout-4-8\" style=\"background-size: cover; background-repeat: no-repeat;background-position: center center;\">\n<div class=\"builder-section-content\">\n<div class=\"builder-text-row\">\n<div class=\"builder-text-column builder-text-column-1\" id=\"builder-section-text_11-column-1\">\n<div class=\"builder-text-content\">\n<h3><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Top of the League!\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #999999;\">By Ryan Campbell, Sports Reporter\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>NOTRE Dame\u2019s under-14 boys netted four goals and battled their way to the top of league on Wednesday after a thrilling performance at home against tough opponents.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Notre Dame came out 4-1 on top against St Ninian\u2019s, from Giffnock, with on-form striker Aiden Gilmartin, bagging himself a hat-trick.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0S2\u00a0pupil said his third goal, a beauty from a free kick in the second half, was his favourite of the evening.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><i>Notre Dame<\/i><i> Now<\/i> <\/span>on the touchline after the game, Aiden, 13, said: \u201cI really enjoyed the game. Luck seemed to be on our side and St Ninian\u2019s just didn\u2019t manage to take their chances.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>St Ninian\u2019s scored first in the game before Notre Dame equalised from a corner kick, using the strong wind to their advantage. The gust\u00a0took the St Ninian&#8217;s goalkeeper off-guard and he palmed the ball into his own net.<\/p>\n<p>A fast-paced second half saw some excellent play from both sides, with Notre Dame\u2019s Euan Robertson putting the ball just over the bar after a mistake from the back by the visitors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Goalkeeper Lewis Fox was left relieved after St Ninian&#8217;s failed to capitalise on an open goal at the Notre Dame end,\u00a0amid\u00a0frantic chants\u00a0 of \u201cFoxy!\u201d from the Notre Dame touchline.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Luck was on the home team\u2019s side, however, as the Giffnock side failed to capitalize on the open goal, sending the ball wide.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The win takes the S2 boys to the top of the Paisley and District League and they face tough games ahead, with away fixtures at St Benedicts before they travel to Giffnock to take on St Ninian\u2019s again.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after the game, coach Mr Armour explained that the \u201cteam performance\u201d won the high-flying Notre Dame boys their latest win. He said: \u201cIt was certainly a great team performance.
