Getting It Right For Every Child<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

G<\/span>etting I<\/span>t R<\/span>ight F<\/span>or E<\/span>very C<\/span>hild (GIRFEC) <\/span>underpins everything that we do here\u00a0at Newark. Your chil<\/span>d\u2019s wellbeing is considered <\/span>in terms of Safe<\/span>, Healthy<\/span>, Achieving<\/span>, Nurtured<\/span>, Active<\/span>, Respected<\/span>, Responsible<\/span> and Included.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Support children’s Learning<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

We have some additional staffing which allows us to provide blocks of extra small group support if necessary particularly in literacy and maths.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our main Support for Learning teacher is\u00a0 Mrs McLaughlan<\/span> <\/strong>\u00a0who mainly concentrates on supporting children with reading difficulties. She also runs a successful short series of parent workshops regarding dyslexia each year. <\/span><\/p>\n

Nurture at Newark<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

Miss Neilson, our Nurture Teacher, runs our Nurture Group and also provides small group support for pupils having difficulties with relationships. She also provides an opportunity for informal <\/span>tea\/coffee and a \u2018chat\u2019 to support parents in a range of ways. <\/span><\/p>\n

Support for High School<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

Mr Stuart Cummings is based at Port Glasgow High <\/span>School and is our Home link worker. Again he will support pupils and parents in a very flexible way but particularly with P6\/7 pupils who need a little more help at the transition time between primary and secondary. <\/span><\/p>\n

Our School Building<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

We have a fabulous building which provides access for disabled pupils and is designed to support those with hearing and visual difficulties. Our educational psychologist visits the school and will provide additional assessment, support and advice. We also have excellent relationships with a range of other agencies on which we routinely call on for further support e.g. occupational health, p<\/span>hysiotherapists, speech therapists, specialised nurses, social work, visually impaired and hearing impaired support.<\/p>\n
