It brings together a range of interventions under one roof, all built on the same foundations that young people grow, heal and thrive through safe, trusted relationships.

Many of the young people we work with have experienced disruption in their early attachments and in the relationships that should have kept them feeling safe. We know from attachment theory, and from everything our practice has taught us, that connection is what makes the difference. When a young person has a consistent adult who is genuinely in their corner, and a community they feel part of, they begin to build the inner security that helps them navigate everything else. That is what The Community Compass is for.

Every intervention within it is relational at its heart. Some offer a gentle, regular group work in a relational space to check in. Some build confidence through connection and contribution. Some offer structured learning about mental health, and one offers dedicated one-to-one therapeutic support. Each intervention has the same intention, to help each young person build strong relationships, feel that they belong, and develop a clearer sense of who they are and where they fit in the world.

Delivered by our therapeutic worker, the model is designed to meet each young person where they are and to find the right fit for them. A young person might take part in one intervention or several, moving between them as their needs and confidence change over time.

WHO IT IS FOR

The Community Compass is open to Care Experienced Young People in Inverclyde who would benefit from a trusted relationship and support with their wellbeing, confidence or sense of belonging. You do not need a diagnosis or a formal reason to refer. If you know a young person who is finding things hard, feels disconnected, or would simply benefit from a consistent and supportive adult in their corner, they are likely a good fit.

THE INTERVENTIONS

Kitbag – (Group Work)

Kitbag gives young people a regular, dedicated space to check in on how they are feeling. It helps them slow down, build self-awareness and start to find words for their emotions. Over time, young people develop a greater understanding of themselves and begin to feel that how they feel matters. It is a gentle, consistent space where trust builds gradually and young people learn that their wellbeing is worth paying attention to.

Suitable for:

A good fit for any young person who would benefit from having a regular, low-pressure space to slow down and check in on how they are feeling. Particularly helpful for those who find it tricky to name or put words to their emotions.

Pause and Reset – (Group Work)

Pause and Reset gives young people a chance to breathe. It is a space where young people can feel accepted, have fun and gently explore some of the things that make life feel complicated, like friendships, identity, peer pressure and coping when things get hard. Because it never feels like a mental health session, young people often open up in ways they would not in a more formal setting. It meets young people where they are and builds connection from there.

Suitable for:

A good fit for young people who are finding day-to-day life a bit much, or who are struggling with social confidence, friendships or knowing who they are. It is also a brilliant starting point for young people who might feel anxious about joining a more structured group.

Community Connections – (Group Work)

Community Connections gives young people the chance to make a real difference in their local area. They take on genuine responsibility, build relationships with people in their community and contribute in ways that matter. Young people often surprise themselves with what they are capable of. They leave with a stronger sense of who they are, what they can do and where they fit in the world.

Suitable for:

A good fit for young people who lack a sense of direction or feel disconnected from the world around them. Also works really well for those who are socially isolated or who are ready to take on some responsibility and build practical skills in a supported, encouraging environment.

Mental Health Groups – (Group Work)

The Mental Health Group helps young people make sense of what is going on inside them. It gives them the knowledge, language and practical tools to better understand their emotions, manage difficult feelings and ask for help when they need it. Sharing is always optional and young people move at their own pace. They leave with a clearer picture of their own mental health and a toolkit they can genuinely use.

Suitable for:

A good fit for young people who would benefit from learning more about mental health and having a safe space to explore how they are feeling. The smaller group option works well where a young person finds social situations really anxiety-provoking, or where they need a quieter, more gradual start.

My Compass – (One to One)

My Compass offers young people regular one-to-one therapeutic support with a trusted, consistent adult. Delivered in a counselling-informed way but shaped entirely around the young person and their world, it gives them a private, confidential space to explore difficult experiences, make sense of how they feel and begin to understand themselves more kindly. Working at their own pace, young people build self-esteem, emotional resilience and a steadier inner sense of direction. Over time, they develop the self-worth and self-awareness that helps them navigate whatever comes next.

Suitable for:

A good fit for young people who need dedicated one-to-one therapeutic support rather than a group setting. Particularly helpful for those carrying difficult or complex experiences, or whose needs are too individual or private to explore in a group. Also well suited to young people who would benefit from a confidential, counselling-style space to work things through, and who are ready to build self-esteem and emotional resilience with consistent, personal support.

The Community Compass ABOUT … Continue reading Community Compass →

["post-499","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
