For Writing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>King\u2019s Oak Guide to Talk for Writing<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is Talk for Writing?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Talk for Writing (TfW) is a teaching framework developed by Pie Corbett.&nbsp;&nbsp;It helps children become better writers by talking through&nbsp;ideas before writing.&nbsp;&nbsp;The idea&nbsp;is: if you can say it, you can write it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3 Main Stages of Talk for Writing<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Immitation\u00a0\u2013 Learn\u00a0from the model (Week 1 and 2)<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A model text\u00a0and toolkit (e.g. suspense, characterisation)\u00a0is\u00a0selected (see King\u2019s Oak\u00a0TfW\u00a0yearly overview)\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A cold piece is completed by the children.\u00a0A blue sticker is used\u00a0to\u00a0identify\u00a0this\u00a0in the jotter.\u00a0The teacher\u00a0should\u00a0provide a stimulus for\u00a0this\u00a0but children should complete the task independently.\u00a0\u00a0Cold pieces should then be used to select features from the relevant tool kits that\u00a0the class needs to work on.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Teacher provides a \u2018hook\u2019 to engage the class.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"110\" height=\"220\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Children should \u2018read as a reader\u2019 and complete Short Burst Writing Activities (SBW) that deepen their understanding of the text.\u00a0\u00a0Activities at this stage might include, role play, expressive arts activities,\u00a0building vocabulary,\u00a0oral comprehension, cloze procedure, sequencing, annotating, improving sentences, spine poems, 5 sentence and\u00a0identify\u00a0and understand the key features that make the text effective. This is done on the class story maps and on individual story maps then written as a new text.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Story maps can be changed using sticky notes or\u00a0pre made\u00a0grids\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They keep the structure but change characters,\u00a0settings\u00a0or events e.g. \u2018The Three Little Pigs\u2019 could be changed to \u2018The Three Little Robots\u2019.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Shared writing should be completed at this stage and displayed on washing lines.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Some children may choose to \u2018hug\u2019 the class story map\u00a0closely\u00a0but others may be more confident to change theirs to something completely different.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This stage builds confidence and creativity.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Self and Peer assessment should be used at this stage.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Teacher assessments at this stage should inform scratch, using what they have learned\u00a0( a\u00a0paragraph a day)\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Shared writing should still be completed but should focus on the aspects of the process that still need\u00a0reinforcing or any areas that need\u00a0revisiting or strengthening.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Children should be encouraged to refer to structure, toolkit and class washing lines.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The goal is independent,\u00a0high quality\u00a0writing.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This piece of writing is known as the \u2018hot piece\u2019 and a red sticker should be used in the jotter.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The teacher should assess the hot piece,\u00a0reflecting back\u00a0on the cold piece to see progress made and use these assessments
