{"id":83,"date":"2022-08-23T21:21:11","date_gmt":"2022-08-23T20:21:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/in\/ieps\/?page_id=83"},"modified":"2023-12-07T23:09:59","modified_gmt":"2023-12-07T23:09:59","slug":"what-do-educational-psychologists-do","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/in\/ieps\/information-for-children-and-young-people-2\/what-do-educational-psychologists-do\/","title":{"rendered":"What is an Educational Psychologist?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An <strong>educational psychologist<\/strong> is another adult who can help children and young people who go to school.<\/p>\n<p>Educational psychologists also offer help for younger children who go to nursery or other places, like children&#8217;s centres, before they go to school.<\/p>\n<p>We all need help from people to do things from time to time.\u00a0 Children and young people often work and play together in groups, to learn new things or to do different activities.\u00a0 Sometimes, other people can help us to learn new skills or to figure out different ways of doing things.\u00a0 At other times, people can help us when we&#8217;re feeling stuck.\u00a0 In the same way, people sometimes ask educational psychologists to work with them too.<\/p>\n<p>Educational psychologists, sometimes called EPs, meet with lots of different people.\u00a0 We often meet with parents, carers, families, teachers and other people who help children and young people.\u00a0 Sometimes we meet with children and young people too, if we think that could be helpful.<\/p>\n<h1>What does an Educational Psychologist do?<\/h1>\n<p>We work with lots of different people so that children and young people can grow up feeling safe, happy and respected and can realise their full potential.<\/p>\n<p>Our job is to help every child and young person to have the best start in life.
