This is organised in to 3 key areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Listening &amp; Talking<\/li>\n<li>Reading<\/li>\n<li>Writing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our pupils will develop and extend literacy skills through opportunities to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>communicate, collaborate and build relationships<\/li>\n<li>reflect on and explain literacy and thinking skills, using feedback to help improve and sensitively provide useful feedback for others<\/li>\n<li>engage with and create a wide range of texts in different media, taking advantage of the opportunities offered by ICT<\/li>\n<li>develop understanding of what is special, vibrant and valuable about their own and other cultures and their languages<\/li>\n<li>explore the richness and diversity of languages and how it can affect them, and the wide range of ways in which they can be creative<\/li>\n<li>extend and enrich vocabulary through listening, talking, watching and reading.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In developing English language skills:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>engage with a wide range of texts and develop an appreciation of the richness and breadth of Scotland\u2019s literary and linguistic heritage<\/li>\n<li>enjoy exploring and discussing word patterns and text structures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>How can I support my child&#8217;s learning?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Parentzone&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/parentzone\/learning-at-home\/Supporting%20literacy%20at%20home\">Supporting literacy at home section<\/a> has simple suggestions on how you can help develop your child&#8217;s literacy skills at home.<br \/>\nThere are many interesting suggestions on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scilt.org.uk\/LearnersParents\/Parentleaflet\/tabid\/1875\/Default.aspx\">SCILT (Scotland\u2019s National Centre for Languages) website<\/a>, including a parental leaflet on the 1+2 policy, Leading on Languages.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Scottish Book Trust reading lists<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Scottish Book Trust has some age-appropriate suggestions for Scots books in their book lists:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/scottishbooktrust.com\/reading\/book-lists\/scots-language-books-3-7\">Scots Language books (3-7)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/scottishbooktrust.com\/reading\/book-lists\/scots-language-books-8-11\">Scots Language books (8-11)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; The development of literacy skills plays an important role in all learning.
