Mathematics occurs in all of these contexts.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Social activities and routines<\/li>\n<li>Personal care routine<\/li>\n<li>Practical activities<\/li>\n<li>Taking part in cultural activities<\/li>\n<li>Taking part in games<\/li>\n<li>Creative expression<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All of the above require the teaching of these skills<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Developing physical skills<\/li>\n<li>Developing sequential skills and memory<\/li>\n<li>Anticipating or predicting change<\/li>\n<li>Communicating about and affecting changes we observe or need<\/li>\n<li>Absorbing a valuable amount of knowledge<\/li>\n<li>Making choices or taking decisions to solve problems<\/li>\n<li>Working from practical towards more abstract thinking<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is the foundation of pre numerate learning. It has sensory beginnings.<\/p>\n<p>Our children are encouraged to learn through play. They will gain practical knowledge which is mathematical in the widest sense.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sense of size<\/li>\n<li>Sense of quantity<\/li>\n<li>Sense of difference<\/li>\n<li>Sense of space &#8211; orientation, location and dimension<\/li>\n<li>Sense of movement \u2013 direction and speed<\/li>\n<li>Sense of rhythm and sequence<\/li>\n<li>Sense of time \u2013 interval and duration<\/li>\n<li>Senses of possession and loss<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have a place for maths in a very special curriculum with sensory beginnings.
