They also learn about the internal and external environments in which organisations\u00a0operate, and the role of stakeholders in business.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Management of marketing<\/strong><br \/>\nStudents\u00a0 develop skills, knowledge and understanding of the importance to organisations\u00a0of having effective marketing systems. They learn about the processes and procedures\u00a0organisations use to maintain competitiveness, and how marketing can be used to\u00a0communicate effectively with consumers, maximising customer\u00a0 satisfaction.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Management of operations<\/strong><br \/>\nStudents develop skills, knowledge and understanding of the importance to organisations\u00a0of having effective operations systems. They learn about the processes and procedures used\u00a0to maintain quality through the effective management of suppliers, inventory, and methods of\u00a0production in an ethical manner.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Management of people<br \/>\n<\/strong>Students develop skills, knowledge and understanding of the issues facing organisations\u00a0when managing people. They learn about the theories, concepts and processes relating to\u00a0human resource management, and how employees contribute to the success of organisations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Management of finance<\/strong><br \/>\nStudents develop skills, knowledge and understanding of the issues facing organisations\u00a0when managing finance. They learn about the basic theories, concepts and processes\u00a0relating to financial aspects of business, when preparing and interpreting information to solve\u00a0financial problems facing organisations.<\/p>\n<p>The course is assessed by:-<\/p>\n<p>A two hour written question paper in the normal SQA exam diet worth 90 marks.<\/p>\n<p>Assignment\/report into a real business of choice worth 30 marks submitted to the SQA in March of each year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/in\/public\/clydeviewbusiness\/uploads\/sites\/7748\/2023\/01\/20175734\/CfE_CourseSpec_N4_SocialStudies_Business.pdf\">National 4 Business Course Specification<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>National 4 Business<\/strong> course is assessed through a series of Units and by completing a Added Value Unit within normal class time.<\/p>\n<p>Students will undertake a class based assessment in September\/October to help determine the most appropriate level of study in this course. Letters will be sent home to inform parents and carers of the results and the recommendation for presentation level.
