S2 Business, Enterprise and Finance

From the very first time students enter the Business Studies Department, we aim to get them familiar with GLOW Teams and the use of One Drive collaborative working.

Each student has been issued with a GLOW user account and password which provides access to range of learning resources. GLOW can be accessed outwith school and students are encouraged to share with their families some of the work they have been producing in class.

GLOW  Teams provides a safe learning environment for students to discuss and support each other in their learning. Teaching staff also use GLOW Teams to share key learning intentions and documents e.g. homework sheets.

Some of the topics which we cover in the S2 BEF course are:-

The Hot Seat – run your own football club by taking key business decisions to ensure its success!

Role of an Entrepreneur – use GLOW One Drive to work collaboratively on a presentation which is delivered to your peers on an inspiring entrepreneur.

Database Creation, Search and Sort – in the context of an airport, students consolidate their Access Database skills on the creation and interrogation of passenger records.

Student Investor Challenge – students develop knowledge and understanding of buying and selling shares in FTSE 100 companies with an inter-class competition to see who can generate the largest growth in portfolio value over a period of time. This topic links to the use of Spreadsheets to monitor share price changes and to produce charts showing trends in portfolio value.

The Enterprise Game is used to introduce accountancy concepts such as Cash Flow, Income Statements and Assets to our students in a fun and competitive way! Students try to grow their business by agreeing deals with customers but facing the unexpected external factors which can hit any company in real life.

BBC News School Report – developing literacy skills, our budding reporter prepare a news story on a topic of their choice. Twenty students are selected to take part in BBC News Report Day (Wednesday 6 March 2019) and have their reports linked to the BBC website.  Clydeview Academy students prepared a short filmed report last year – see the link below to watch their final version.

Year of the Young People

Each students has the opportunity to have their report filmed in the classroom – here is Ross and Arran’s report from 2018.
