We are Gourock Primary’s GIRFEC Champions!
Our job is to promote Health and Wellbeing within the school. GIRFEC helps us to understand ways to improve our health and wellbeing.
We try to make sure that every child in the school is aware of the SHANARRI indicators so that they understand what it means to be healthy and supported in all areas of their life and learning.
We have been busy devising various ways to highlight the importance of GIRFEC within the school. For example; we ran a Girfec Hero competition in the school which had loads of entries making the final decision really difficult.
Here it is! 🙂 Our winning GIRFEC Hero was designed by Grace Thomson!
Another big project for us was coming up with an innovative way to get the school talking about the 8 health and wellbeing indicators. We have designed a GIRFEC Goals game board and we are really excited as we have managed to secure funding to get them produced professionally. This will allow us to allocate game boards throughout the school and we also hope to sell some within our authority.
Recently, we presented at an Education Scotland Conference in Stirling. The event was called ‘Health and Wellbeing: Responsibility of All. Making the Links… Making it Work’.
We really enjoyed talking about our learning and the skills we have developed from being part of a group like this. The feedback from other teachers was really positive and they asked us lots of questions about what we do.
