P4 New Session August 2012

Welcome to all the new P4’s, we have all settled in well and now feel like a whole class. We are all looking forward to an exciting year ahead. We have been getting our thinking caps on and trying to remember all the skills we learned before the Summer holidays.

We have been doing bits and bobs to brighten up our classroom and deciding how we want to organise everything. We have been talking about the Paralmpics and what they are. Our Reading groups started this week and Reading Homework will start next week.

Parents, please look out for the ‘welcome letter’ which will come out this Friday, any queries – please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Trip to Archive Centre

Today Primary 4 went on an exciting trip to the Archive Centre.  We went on the trip to learn more about our topic, farming.  In particular we were looking at what Inverness was like in the past and what the land was used for in the past.

Here we had to look at what clothes would have been like in the Highlands in the past.  We got to touch the material and we all quickly guessed that most of them were made from wool from sheep.  It made us think of what our clothes were made off.

We got to look at 2 maps of Inverness, one was about 15 years old and the other was about 230 years old.  We were able to spot similarities and differences between the 2 maps.  The main difference was that in the ‘olden days’ Inverness had a lot less buildings than we do now, there was much more farms in the olden days.  We were even able to spot our school.

We were able to hold objects from the 19th Century that would have been used in a kitchen in a croft.  We had to think what the objects may have been used for and then we drew some of the objects.  We had to wear special gloves to touch them.

It was a lovely way to learn about crofts and farms in the past and we enjoyed our time out of the classroom.

Gymnastics Apparatus

We are having a great time on the gymnastics apparatus, we have been working on different balances.  Please excuse the fact that some photos are blurry, but they are action shots taken by our photographer Holly.

Trip to Archive Centre

Primary 4 went on a lovely trip to the Archive Centre on Tuesday 20th December.  After a tricky walk there (where we had to avoid the ice), we had lots of fun making christmas crafts.  First we made a cracker, we were excellent at listening for instructions.

The finish results looked great, don’t you think!

We then got to choose whether we made a card, calendar or decorated a cup for christmas day.  It was great fun!

We loved the comfy seats and got to enjoy some refreshing juice as well! It was a great trip.
