Happy birthday…..farewell….and thankyou

Happy birthday to Ciara and Henry who both turned 6 this week. Hope you both had lots of birthday fun!

As this is the last blog for this session, I would just like to say a huge thankyou to all the boys and girls of P1M who have worked their socks off this year! They have been an absolute delight to work with and we have had lots of fun and laughs (and of course, some moments when Mrs. Paul and I have been tearing our hair out!!!!) I would also like to say thankyou to all the parents and carers who have given us their full support this year.

Thankyou all and have a super summer break!

Thankyou also to the primary 7 helpers who did a fantastic job and especially to Anna, our official photographer!

Hope everyone has a lovely easter holiday and remember not to eat too much chocolate!!

Nursery transition

We had lots of fun today teaching the nursery children how to play some of the number games that we use in Primary 1.  The primary 7 helpers also enjoyed playing and became very competitive, trying really hard to be the winners!

Easter Bonnet Competition

EasterBonnet

P3FS have entered Hobbycraft’s Easter Bonnet Competition on behalf of Lochardil. They’ve done a fantastic job.

It’s YOUR turn to take part now. Get down to Hobbycraft and vote Lochardil as your winner. Voting takes place over the next two weeks!

Searching for our pal Nessie!

Today P1C, P1M and P3FS spent the day at Urquhart Castle – learning about weapons and armour that the knights used to use, visiting the castle ruins and searching for our friend Nessie. We even fed Nessie some of her favourite shortbread, but she must have been too shy today.

We’d like to thank Di and her team at Urquhart Castle for assisting us with our trip. We’d also like to thank all of our helpers who volunteered. The weather was gorgeous. The weather dance Mr Cook did this morning definitely paid off . . .

On a treasure hunt with ‘Nessie-Bot’

We changed our Bee-Bot into Nessie-Bot and sent her on a treasure hunt around Loch Ness. It was tricky making sure she went in the right direction but we all had good fun and found some sparkling jewels hidden in Loch Ness!

Monster masks

What a fun afternoon we had creating our monster masks. Do you think we look like scary or friendly little monsters?

Loch Ness topic

We are really enjoying our topic so far and the Nessie Munch Cafe has proved to be very popular! We even have monster menus in there in case a certain monster comes to visit!

We have also been busy writing ‘Nessie is…’ poems where we tried really hard to write good descriptions of Nessie.

Our Nessie pictures were made by first of all using the marbling technique to create the Loch background and then cutting and sticking Nessie onto it. Doesn’t our work look fab?

Tartan Day

Don’t we look good dressed up in our tartan for Tartan Day?

Pupil of the month – December

Well done to Lucas who was chosen as our pupil of the month for December. Lucas is a super cheery member of our class who always really tries his best. Continue to work hard Lucas and keep smiling!

Our topic this term

Our topic this term is Loch Ness. We have lots of fun activities planned and have already decided to turn our house corner into the ‘Nessie Munch Cafe’ where tourists on the hunt for Nessie  can stop for a bite to eat!

The questions we will be trying to find  answers to include:

Where is Inverness and Loch Ness?

Why is Loch Ness important to our area?

What is Nessie?

Why is there a castle beside Loch Ness and what is it called?

Why does water freeze?

Does Loch Ness freeze?

If you have any books, tourist leaflets, postcards etc. relating to our topic we would really appreciate if they could be brought into school. Thankyou.

GYM days this term will continue to be  Monday with Mrs. Campbell, the P.E specialist and  Wednesday, with myself. Please remember gym kit for both days. Thankyou.

P1 Christmas Party!

We had a FABULOUS time at our Christmas Party. We played party games, danced to fantastic party music, and we can’t forget the amazing party food that we ate.

Thank you to the parents/carers for their food donations.

Christmas Service tomorrow at the Culduthel Christian Centre. Please make sure you have on suitable clothing for walking to and from the CCC.

The Toys’ Party

Today we got together with Mr Cook’s class to read ‘The Toys’ Party’. But this time Mr Cook had a bag of treats. He thought it would be fun to make the cake from ‘The Toys’ Party’.

Mrs McArthur and Mrs Paul thought he was playing a trick on P1, but out of his bag came a mixing bowl, cornflakes, tomato ketchup, milk, jam, sugar and baked beans.

We gave it all a massive stir – and a few of us even tried it. It tasted YUMMY!

Mr Cook has put it in the fridge . . . all ready for our Christmas Party tomorrow. I hope he remembers to take it out.

CHRISTMAS PARTY TOMORROW – please remember to wear your party clothes to school. Children will get changed after they have finished their party.

Nativity 2013 – ‘Hey Ewe!’

What a FANTASTIC two performances of ‘Hey Ewe!’ today. Every single child from the Nursery through to Primary 3 did such a FANTASTIC job.

A busy week

Monday morning began with a visit from M and M productions. We enjoyed watching their performance of Cinderella. It made us laugh but Cinderalla’s stepmother was a little bit loud and scary! We  liked the happy ending when Cinderella and the Prince got married. An exciting way to start the week!

Wednesday was our first full rehearsal for “Hey Ewe” with all the infant classes and the nursery. It went really well and we tried our very best when it was our turn to go on the stage and sing our song. We will keep practising though just to make sure it is absolutely perfect when mums and dads come to watch!

On Thursday we had more visitors from primary 6/7 and the nursery. We read one of our favourite stories,‘Jumblebum’, to the nursery then some of us went  for  a play in our room with the nursery boys and girls and some of us had a story with the P6/7s. It was a fun afternoon.

Friday was our whole school achievement assembly and we were so proud of Chloe when she went on stage to collect her Pupil of the Month certificate.

                Well done Chloe!

Bookbug for Primary 1

sbt1Yesterday our Primary 1 children were taken into the hall after lunchtime for a special treat . . . A story read by Mrs Caddell.

The Scottish Book Trust have provided each Primary 1 child with a bag including the three shortlisted books for the Scottish Book Awards.

We’ve been reading the stories in class – but it was a surprise when we got our very own bags.

Mrs Caddell read her favourite – ‘Jumblebum’ – but in a few weeks P1 children will get to vote for their favourite.

sbt2 sbt3 sbt4

Share the stories with your child at bedtime, and talk about which book is their favourite and why. We’ll be tracking the book awards in March, so be sure to check back for the result.

Floppy Fun Pack and Zoe Zebra

Ciara and Ryan were so excited to get Floppy Fun Pack and Zoe Zebra to take home this weekend. Hope you both have a fabulous weekend. Well done!

Visitors

We had lots of visitors to our class yesterday. Some children from the nursery came to play with us and listen to a story. We enjoyed showing them around our classroom.

We also had some great Primary 7 storytellers. What a fun afternoon we had!

Assembly

It was our turn to show at Assembly today so we took along our ‘Fizzy Pop Fairies’ to let everyone see what our wonderful fairies looked like. I think they were all very impressed! They also liked our Fizzy Pop Fairy 5-a-day rhyme.

Children in Need

What fun we had coming to school in our pyjamas today to raise money for Children in Need. Pudsey would be so proud of us!

Children in Need

What a fantastic day it was today in Lochardil. We loved having boys, girls and staff dressed in their pyjamas. The Junior Leaders did a fantastic job with the Pudsey themed games, and Mr Cook was tired out after playing goal-keeper at lunchtime.

With the support of you all, we raised a massive £404.88 – a fantastic total!

Our competition winners were announced at assembly and are on the Pupil Council blog.

Pupil of the month

Well done, Henry, for being chosen as our pupil of the month for October.Always smiling and always working hard, a well-deserved award!

Also, well done to Aidan and Ruairidh who took Zoe Zebra and Floppy’s Fun Pack home at  the weekend. Wonder whose turn it will be next time?

Fizzy Pop Fairies

What a fantastic time we had when the Fizzy Pop Fairies came to visit us.The story was fantastic and there were  lots of magical things going on, like Ryan having a glass of milk poured into his shoe?! It was also good fun making our own fairies from lots of recycled materials.

Remember your ‘5 a day’ and also, remember to  look out for Mischievous Mel. Where can that naughty fairy be, I wonder?
