Lochardil Tea Towel!

The Parent Council have prepared a tea towel for Lochardil Primary School. The school opened for it’s first session in August 1964. So, after all the hard work from the children, teachers and staff at the school we are delighted to offer for sale two different Lochardil Primary School Tea Towels. One towel is for P1 – P3 and the second is for P4 – P7.

Whilst the towels will be available to buy later in the year, you can pre-order your towels now to ensure that you are able to get one (or 2 or 3!) which will make great Christmas presents.

Order forms will be available from the school from Monday 30th September.

Please follow the links to view the towels and access the order form.

Apple ‘A’!

As promised, here’s a few of our ‘A’ – Apple Prints. The washing line is fixed back onto the wall – thanks to a bit of help from Miss Shimmield this afternoon.

Lots of you went home with a bag of cakes today from the Coffee Afternoon – I hope you don’t eat them all at once.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Mr.Cook

Coffee Afternoon Success!

macmillan coffee morning

Everyone in P6/7 just want to say a massive thank you to all that contributed to our Coffee Afternoon to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. We were overwhelmed by the number of cakes brought in by pupils and parents – so thank you all very much. We now have to count all the money we raised which will go towards helping people who are fighting cancer.

We made a whopping £822!! It’s fantastic, so well done!

Here are some pictures from the afternoon . . . thank you again,

From all the pupils in P6/7, Mrs Macleod, Mrs Prentice and Miss Shaw.

Macmillan Coffee Afternoon – Tomorrow

2. Attend the Coffee Afternoon – Friday 27th September – 1.45pm – 2.45pm
3. Allow your child to purchase a cake by providing them with a donation of £1

Thank you for your support with the event!

Apple printing . . .

Today in Art we developed the skill of printing, creating pictures of the letter A, using apples.

The pictures are still drying, so we’ll get some photographs up by the end of the week – once they’ve been hung up.

See you tomorrow,
Mr.Cook

Talk like a pirate . . .

This afternoon, we had a message delivered from Captain Crusader. He’d delivered us a treasure map that ‘x’ marked the spot.

We went out on our journey to the field to find the ‘x’. When we got there, we found another clue. Our journey took us to the willow structure, the back gate, the climbing wall, and finally to the P6/7 garden.

When we arrived in the P6/7 garden, we found a treaure box, marked with a skull and crossbones. Inside there were eye-patches, gold coins and stickers.

We came back to the classroom and sung some pirate songs.

Shiver me’ timbers . . .

Autumn leaves everywhere . . .

This week we went on an adventure. We explored the willow structure in the field, and the garden which has been created by the P6/7s.

We were looking at all the wonderful colours of the Autumn leaves – red, orange, yellow, and brown . . .

We’ve created some fantastic leaf rubbings which we’ve put up in the classroom.

Have a great weekend!
Mr.Cook

Practice makes perfect . . .

We’ve been very busy the past two days practising the letter c and the number 3.

Please keep practising at home over the weekend. You could do this with a pencil and paper, maybe with a paintbrush and water or with the plasticine. All of these are good ways of practising your letters and numbers.

Today’s sound was ‘f’ – this was a little bit tricky. Here’s Geraldine to help!

Until tomorrow amigos!

Ourselves . . .

This term we’ve begun our ‘Ourselves’ topic in Primary 1. So far we’ve settled into our new classroom, we’ve found out a bit about what we get up to at home through our writing, and we’ve learned  the names for the different parts of our body.

We have some more questions which we’d like to ask:

  • What makes us all different?
  • Why do we need a nose?
  • What do we like to do around the place we live?
  • What are our favourite things?

If anyone at home as any other questions they’d like us to investigate, please comment these on our blog. We did some self-portraits on Monday. Check the pictures out below:

Today we went on an adventure around the school. Ask your child to tell you about the leaf adventure!

See you tomorrow,
Mr.Cook

Write the number 3 . . .

This week, we’ve been learning how to write the number 3. In school we are practising using the white boards, in the air, and on paper.

You should complete the second page of your ‘Number Formation Booklet’ for ‘Number 3’ tonight.

Please continue to practise the numbers 1, 2 and 3 at home!

Mr.Cook

‘c’ formation . . .

This week we are practising the formation of the letter ‘c’ in class. The children need to complete the second page of their letter formation homework booklet (‘c’ formation) and return to school.

Continue to work on the letter ‘c’ this week at home. Your child also has a reading book home with them tonight.

Let’s get writing the letter ‘c’!

Pupil of the Month

Well Done to Jayden who got our Pupil of the Month for September!

Jayden enters the classroom every morning with a massive smile. She has been a great Helping Hand in the classroom, showing off her skill as a super tidier. Well done Jayden!

I hope everyone has a great weekend! I look forward to seeing any of you that can make it to the school fete tomorrow. I’ll be at the jam jar stall – even though some P7s have said that I’m at ‘Sponge The Teacher’.

Mr.Cook

Thank you for visiting . . .

It was great to see all of the visitors in our classroom today for Meet The Teacher. We hope you enjoyed seeing our art work, our new classroom and some of the activities we do in P1.

If you really enjoyed Geraldine – why don’t you watch it again to help learn the ‘g’ sound?

[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/P2DdC5Q6D64" width="425" height="344" allowfullscreen="true" fvars="fs=1" /]

See you in the morning,
Mr.Cook

A special visitor to P1 . . .

Today, we had a special visitor in Primary 1. Her name was Susanne, and she was from a charity called Headway Highland.

She showed us a DVD about a boy who was silly and didn’t wear a helmet when he was on his bike.

We then got to do an experiment with an egg. In the first experiment the egg had a helmet on. When it was dropped to the floor, it was protected by the helmet. In the second experiment, the egg was in a plastic bag – we watched it go SPLAT on the floor.
Susanne reminded us that we HAVE to wear a helmet when we are on our bikes as it keeps our head safe!

Thank you for our special visit Susanne!

Write the number 2 . . .

This week, we’ve been learning how to write the number 2. In school we are practising using the white boards, in the air, on paper, and we’re hoping to use plasticine as well.

You should complete the first page of your ‘Number Formation Booklet’ for ‘Number 2’.

We like watching El Nombre – he shows us how to write our numbers properly.

Enjoy practising writing the number 2 at home!
Mr.Cook

‘o’ formation . . .

This week we are practising the formation of the letter ‘o’ in class. The children need to complete the first page of their ‘o’ homework booklet and return to school.

Why not practise ‘o’ at home? – in the air, when the bathroom mirror is steamy, in a sink of water when washing your hands.

Let’s get writing the letter ‘o’!
Mr.Cook

Time to mosaic . . .

In Art this week, we learned how to make a type of picture called a mosaic. We used lots of little bits paper and material to stick onto our people. We think that all of the fantastic colours brighten up the corridor. We can’t wait for you to see them next week at Meet The Teacher.

Have a fantastic weekend,

Mrs Sutherland will be in on Monday and Tuesday next week.

Our new classroom . . .

On Friday we moved to our new classroom. Mr Cook was away on Monday and Tuesday, so it was his first day with P1 in the new classroom today. We like being next to the other Primary 1 classes in the main building.

Mrs Caddell sent home a letter today to tell you that Meet The Teacher is now NEXT Thursday, 12th September 2013 at 1.45pm – 2.45pm. During this time you will be able to visit P1, and see some of the things that we do. We’re really excited to show you Geraldine . . .

See you in the morning,

Mr.Cook

The big move . . .

After two days away in the Education Office, Mr Cook was really looking forward to getting back to Primary 1 today.

As Mrs Caddell said in the letter sent home today, tomorrow is our BIG MOVE from our classroom next to the Nursery into another classroom in the school.

It’s really exciting as we’ll be next to the other P1 and P2 children, and it will make break-time, lunch-time, and going to the toilet much easier.

Mr Cook is really looking forward to the new classroom – and we will hopefully be in it by tomorrow afternoon!

Miss Shimmield will meet you in the line tomorrow!

Mr.Cook

We made it through Monday . . .

What a busy day today was. Mr Cook will not be in class the next two days, Mrs Sutherland will be in class instead.

ART

This term, it’s time to get arty. To save our school clothes from getting paint on them, we’re wondering if you could bring in an old t-shirt/shirt which can be put on when we’re painting (Adult’s shirts/t-shirts can be great for this also, as they act as a painting apron). Our first art lesson will be tomorrow, Tuesday 27th August 2013.Thank you!

SHOWING

Each Friday afternoon, before assembly, we’ll be doing ‘showing’. This is where your child can bring along something – maybe a toy or a photograph – and talk about it in-front of the class for 1 minute. Here is this term’s ‘Showing Rota’. Instead of bringing an item, they might just want to talk about something they like to do. We use showing to build your child’s confidence when talking within the classroom.

READING

Reading homework begins this week. Please look inside the front cover of your child’s book, you will find questions which you can discuss. The purpose of reading the wordless books is for your child to re-tell you the story they’ve heard in school. This should be returned to school tomorrow.

See you all Thursday,
Mr.Cook

End of the week . . .

What a quick week this week was – Mr Cook can’t believe that it’s Friday evening already. By the looks of things, all of the boys and girls had a great day with Miss Shimmield.

We’ve got PE first thing on Monday morning. Remember, you can wear your school uniform under your clothes. It might make it a bit easier for getting changed in the morning.

We’ve been very busy learning our sounds – this weekend – remember to practise ‘s’, ‘a’, ‘t’ and ‘i’.

Click the picture of the ducks to hear the ‘5 Little Ducks’ song – it’s been our favourite so far!

Look forward to seeing you all on Monday!
Mr.Cook

Our classroom . . .

Today we got our home/school diary home. We have to practise the ‘s’ and the ‘a’ sounds and actions at home.

Look at the pictures of our classroom:

See you tomorrow!
Mr.Cook

WELCOME P1!

Hello P1! What a fantastic day we had today.

We really enjoyed learning about the ‘s’ sound. Geraldine the Giraffe helped us find words using the ‘s’ sound, and we learned a song and actions too. Maybe the boys and girls would like to show mums and dads at home.

Mr Cook is looking forward to another super day tomorrow!

Mr.Cook
