On Friday all staff took part in the worlds biggest coffee morning to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support. There were plenty of cakes as well as a silent auction and raffle. The total raised was a fantastic £1197.95. We all thoroughly enjoyed stuffing our faces!!

The Senior Boys launched their 2015/16 season with a warm-up match at home against a strong Charleston outfit last Monday afternoon. After a slow start and a low-scoring opening quarter the two teams eventually got their skills flowing and Charleston ran away with an early lead. Boasting two U18 Highland reps, the Charleston team dominated the scoring and highlighted the inexperience at I.R.A’s defensive end. Two standout performers were Finn MacGruer who amassed a staggering 11 rebounds and 20 points to record his first double-double of the season alongside David Wyllie with a similarly impressive 9 rebounds, but sadly it wasn’t enough. The Royals will go into the official start of the Scottish Cup with some improvements needed in their outside shooting, passing game and defensive footwork. A reasonable effort overall with flashes of potential that will  hopefully become more consistent as the season progresses. A big thanks to Miss Pottie, Catriona, Liam, Brooke and Lauren who officiated the game.

On Thursday, 17th September, a group of S4, S5 and S6 National 5 and Advanced Higher German pupils, accompanied by Miss Munro and Mr Groth, visited Inverness High School to meet with a party of German exchange students and their teachers from the Maria-Theresia-Gymnasium in the Bavarian town of Augsburg.  The pupils and staff were given a tour of Inverness High School and its farm, before treating the German visitors to some mid-morning traditional ceilidh dancing and ten-pin bowling at Roller Bowl in the evening.  It is hoped that our IRA pupils will keep in contact with their new German friends (and practise their German language skills at the same time!) and we hope to welcome them to our new school building in 2016.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to the origami masterclass in the library at lunchtime last Friday. It looked like everyone had a great time and certainly gave their brains a good work out.

The master class was part of Highland Libraries’ “Share a wish” project. The project is a celebration of our culturally diverse community. The public are being asked to share their wishes and aspirations for the future on coloured bookmarks and hang them on a special wishing tree in Inverness library.

Thank you to everyone in the school who has shared a wish so far. The bookmarks will now be sent to Inverness Library to form part of the display there.

Visit Inverness Library to check it out or you can also share your wish on the virtual wishing tree https://hlhshareawish.wordpress.com/
