Building work is due to start on the new school on 14th July 2014. The first phase of the work will be to relocate the staff car parks, the bus and parent drop off zones and the cycle compound. This work will be carried out by Miller Construction or by a sub-contractor appointed on their behalf.
The new temporary car park will be formed over a 4 – 5 week period, works commencing w/c 14th July 2014, with access to it via Culduthel Avenue. This car park will come into operation from w/c 18th August. Staff should be aware that from the 18th August this temporary car park will be the only car parking facility on the campus. The car park at the front of the school currently accessed from Culduthel Road will remain in use over the summer until the temporary car park is operational however access will be from Culduthel Avenue as the current entrance will be part of the new bus drop off and will be being worked on. There will be temporary traffic lights on Culduthel road while work on the drop off zones is being completed. The “rear” car park currently accessed from Culduthel Avenue will be out of use from 13th July as this will form the site compound for the contractors and will be inside the contractor’s hoarding which will begin to go up on the 14th of July. Access to the new temporary car park will only be from Culduthel Avenue which in turn must be accessed by taking the appropriate roundabout on the distributor road. There will be no through access from Culduthel Road via Culduthel Avenue. This is marked on the diagram below. It should be noted that this car park is for staff, visitor and contractor use only and should not be used for dropping off or picking up pupils.
Care should be taken when entering and leaving the site as the road narrows between the canteen and the above ground Calor gas tank, even after widening work has been undertaken.
A path from the car park to the “rear” entrance to the school will be put in as part of this work.
The bus and parent drop off points are being relocated with access directly off Culduthel Road. The bus drop off will be relocated to inside the school grounds and the parent drop off will be by means of a lay by built into Culduthel Road. The position of these is marked on the diagram above . Only buses will be permitted to use the bus drop off zone at the start and end of the school day. The car park at Rollerbowl is to be used by parents as an alternative drop off point. This has been agreed by Mr Yusaf and the Highland Council. A new temporary pelican crossing is to be installed over the summer as well just after the entrance to Rollerbowl to allow pupils to cross Culduthel Road safely as they go to and from the school and the car park there.
The cycle compound will be moved to the area of grass beside the games hall with access via Culduthel Road and not directly from Culduthel Avenue.
Should these arrangements change, a press release will be issued w/c11th August and notifications posted on the Councils web page, Twitter and Facebook accounts.
