As reported last week, pupils from Inverness Royal Academy’s Gaelic Dept –Learners and Fluent Speakers – participated in a variety of competitions at the Mod and amassed between them a total of:

10  x 1st prizes (Gold Medals)

4 x 2nd prizes (Silver medals)

5 x 3rd  prizes (Bronze medals)

Our pupils entered competitions from solo singing, traditional singing, solo verse speaking, conversation to piping. They had also entered literature competitions by writing poems and stories and creating artwork in school which was submitted earlier.

Each and every pupil should be commended for their behaviour on the day and how well they represented the school. IRA had a very positive profile all day.  We are looking good for representation at this year’s Royal National Mod being held in Inverness in October!

Our recent Lunchtime Basketball League concluded recently, and photos of the winners are attached. The 6 week tournament saw a huge improvement by all 13 boys/girls teams competing and showed promising signs for the upcoming season after the summer!

The boys’ final was won by the S2 ALL Stars (pictured), beating the Ballerz in a closely fought game. The Lunchables were the winners of the 3rd-place playoff game against the Narwhals. The girls’ final was won by the dominant Team Awesome (pictured) against a fiery young 1S2 Warriors team.

A huge thank you to the fantastic officials for their reliability, commitment and enthusiasm in running the first Lunchtime Basketball League: Ananda, Briagh, Layla, Holly, Catriona, Hamish, Steven, Mitchell, Lewis and Johnathan.

Tha sgoilearan ann an Roinn na Gàidhlig air a bhith trang ag ionnsachadh agus a’ deisealachadh airson cò-fharpaisean a’ Mhòd Ionadail. Tha iad air taic fhaighinn le seo le bhith a’ frithealadh Club a’ Mhòid aig àm lòn san sgoil. Tha sgoilearan an dàra cuid fileanta agus luchd-ionnsachaidh a’ gabhail pàirt ann an iomadh cò-fharpais eadar seinn, aithris, còmhradh agus a’ cluich ionnsramaidean. Gur math  a thèid leotha air an latha!

Many pupils in the Gaelic department have been busy learning their pieces for competitions at the forthcoming Inverness Local Mod. They have been able to attend a lunchtime Mod Club to help them with this. Both Learners and Fluent Speakers are participating in a range of competitions from verse speaking, to solo singing and instrumental competitions. We wish them the very best on the day!
