Basketball results

Results from recent matches – thanks to Mr Stone for posting these

1. IRA U18 Boys 49 defeated by Gordonstoun U18 Boys 58

 2. IRA S1 Girls 45 defeated Millburn S1 Girls 25

 3. IRA S1 Boys 36 defeated Millburn S1 Boys 34 in OVER-TIME!!!

Despite trailing Millburn for the first three quarters of the match, IRA kept their heads and played smart basketball to level the scores in the final minutes. To add to the tension, both teams had their highest scorers fouled out at the end of regulation time! With five minutes of over-time being played IRA took the lead and held their nerve to clinch victory! The win was made even more special having lost to Millburn 12 – 46 previously in the National Schools Cup game before Christmas. It was an outstanding effort by the entire 10 man team and everyone contributed brilliantly in their best game yet.

We have three games next week and will be looking to continue building our momentum in the Highland Schools League. In other news, the S1 Boys have been readmitted to the National Schools Cup Finals and will face Monifieth High School in early February. The winner will advance to the final 8 in the competition.

Stay tuned for more exciting basketball developments!

IRA Basketball – “Play hard, play smart, play together”

Jan 232014

By Samantha Fraser 4G1

On Wednesday 15th January, Peter Matheson, a former IRA pupil, visited the school and gave a lecture about his career in Economics to some students studying economics between 3rd and 6th year. Peter works as the Economics and Finance counsellor at the British Embassy in Washington DC. He is the “eyes and ears” of the UK economy in the US. Peter was a pupil at Lochardil Primary School before attending Inverness Royal Academy. He then went on to study at Strathclyde University and, after graduating, got a job at HM Treasury. In 2008 he obtained the post in America with the British Embassy. He has achieved all of this by the age of 40.

During his interesting talk he constantly referred to Mr Stewart’s enthusiasm, encouragement and guidance while he was a pupil at Inverness Royal Academy, which prompted him to follow this path in his career.

Parents may be interested in this opportunity to be part of a national initiative to keep children safe online

If you could ask Facebook, Twitter, Xbox or BT a question, what would it be?

Do you want to know what Xbox game ratings mean? Not sure how to report abusive comments on Twitter? Do you know how to set parental controls in your home provided by your ISP?

Through Safer Internet Day TV you can now ask these questions directly of the people, who make these decisions.

We have a panel of experts from Facebook, Twitter, Xbox & BT who will be answering questions about keeping children and families safe on the internet on 30 January in Belfast! The film will become part of our SIDtv programme on Safer Internet Day, 11 February 2014.

We are calling parents, carers and grandparents to send in their questions to be answered by these experts, who are involved directly in shaping privacy, safety and content rating features on Facebook, Twitter, Xbox & BT in the UK.

To see your questioned answered, just tune in to SIDtv on 11 February from 3 pm or 7 pm at

To send your question email BY 23 JANUARY! Just state your first name and how old your children/ grandchildren are and we will try and respond to as many questions as we can.
