Day 1 – Loch Ken 2019

Today was the first day of our adventure at Loch Ken. When we arrived we met the instructors they gave us a tour, told us the activities for today and then we unpacked in our accommodation.

For lunch we were served a roll, soup, a bag of crisps, shortbread and a piece of fruit. It was very tasty and filled us up for the exciting afternoon ahead.

First we were split into three groups and each group was doing a different activity such as…

Archery – The instructor at this station was called Sean. When we arrived at this section of the grounds we started off by loading arrows and having attempts at hitting the target. After that we had a small competition in teams where we trying to get the biggest score as a group. The group with the highest number of points was the Little Babas with a score of 70 points. We then played the cutlery game where the aim was to hit sections of the board to get utensils to allow us to eat our dinner. Which we didn’t follow (apart from Harry Bryson who used two knives to eat his baguette). In conclusion archery turned out to be a successfully enjoyed activity that we all had fun participating in.

Climbing Wall – The instructors at this station were Ollie and Tash. In order to get to the zip line (the reward) we needed to climb the big wall that lay awaiting tantalisingly in our path towering above us. Before we were allowed to enter the climbing area we had to put on a helmet and a harness. We climbed the wall in twos using the routes, crimps and chips to guide us to our destination. The wall was quite challenging for some of us but we all attempted it and pushed ourselves to our limits. The zip line was amazing and some of us screamed particularly loudly on the way down.

Laser Tag – The instructor at this station was Harry (who was a crack shot). When we arrived at the wooded laser tag area we split into teams and were assigned hats with sensors on top of them and a gun. The teams were then sent to their bases and they had to attack the oppositions territory whilst defending their own. It was lots of fun and we felt like we were soldiers on the front line (without the dangers of real live fire).

For dinner we had yummy baguettes followed by brownies. After dinner we played ‘Bin Bag Warriors’ with Tash and Ollie. We also met the centre dog, ‘Boy’ who took a liking to Mr Graham’s ball and left one or two teeth marks on it. We don’t think the ball will be coming back to school.

All in all it was a fun filled exceptional day.
