The Rights of the Child

Rights are about making sure people are treated well and get a fair deal. They are something you need and you have to respect other’s people rights. But if your friend says to do something unsafe, you have the right to say no.

Every person has human rights and everyone under 18 has specific rights called the Rights of the Child. Every child in the world has rights no matter what country.

There are about 42 rights for children and they can be found in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). For example, some of them are:

  • You have the right to rest, play and to have the chance to join a wide range of activities (art. 31)
  • If you have any kind of disability, you have a right to special help to make sure you can join in with things (art. 23)
  • You have the right to an education (art. 28)
  • If you committed a crime or if someone says you have, you should be treated with respect (art. 37)

But all the rights are important and we need all of them to be HEALTHY, HAPPY and SAFE!
