Although it is important to identify where we are now, it is not enough to stop there. We need to reflect upon how we can develop the skills where we are less confident and how we can transfer the skills in which we are confident and competent.

Activity 2

Complete the audit below, using the information from the table above.

Skills already developed How will I use these How do I know (evidence)**
manage time  I will have to manage my time accordingly with all my modules, especially on placement.  When being a part of the senior team in sixth year, we had to organise all events and school meetings, for example. We all had to stick to deadlines to ensure everything ran smoothly.
act as a leader  I will have to be mature and enthusiastic on my placement in the primary schools. To do so, I have to take up the role of an educator and guide the class sufficiently.  I actively set up a volunteering placement last year in a primary school to come in and run a club – encouraging children to walk to school more. I was in charge of all the ground work and planning.
listen to others  It is important that we all work together in this profession as we can all benefit from everyone.  In my part time job, I face customer complaints in which I have to act upon. I need to listen to each customer and understand their wishes so that I can resolve the problem.
take notes  To take in everything that has been said in lectures, it is important to record what they say as you go. Unless you do it at another time and learn the key information.  In the sixth years of high school, I have learnt the best possible ways to study. I take notes about key topics and go over them with highlighters. I rewrite these notes until I remember them and understand it.

** This section should be completed as you identify when/where/how you have used/developed these skills.

Part B – Activity 1

Recognition Reflection Action
Skills not yet developed How will I develop these How do I know (evidence)**
take risks  I will aim to be ambitious and set targets – even if I think I cannot reach them. I will also try to be adventurous when thinking how I can teach the children in exciting ways on placement.  I have always been one for not liking change. I have a routine and I stick to it. I am afraid of failure which I have to work on.
