Retirement Assembly<\/h2>\n

Yesterday, we welcomed Mrs Melrose back to school to celebrate her retirement with us.\u00a0 The children led us in an Assembly, thanking her for her work, linking her values to that of St. Joseph as it was also his Feast Day and celebrating with some songs.\u00a0 Mrs Melrose wanted us to pass on her thanks and gratitude to all.\u00a0 She is very much enjoying her retirement but is also missing the children, staff and community of St. Leonard\u2019s where she taught for 29 years.<\/p>\n

Eid<\/h2>\n

Many of our families are celebrating Eid today.\u00a0 We hope that everyone has a lovely time celebrating this special Festival.<\/p>\n

Parents\u2019 Night<\/h2>\n

Parents\u2019 Night will take place on Thursday evening, and bookings can be made via ParentsPortal.\u00a0 A reminder that if children are attending that they must remain in the hall with their parents at all times.<\/p>\n

Book Fayre<\/h2>\n

Next week The Scholastic Book Fayre will be in school.\u00a0 Room 8 are leading on this enterprise initiative, and children will get a chance to browse the fayre on Tuesday and Wednesday.\u00a0 The Fayre will be open on Parents\u2019 Night for any items that you wish to purchase. Bishop Toal<\/h2>\n

We had a lovely visit from Bishop Toal on Wednesday.\u00a0 P7 led the assembly and the singing by everyone was outstanding.\u00a0 Bishop Toal spent time with the school answering questions and then some more time with the Confirmandi.<\/p>\n

Thank you for your kind donations of Easter Eggs today for Kilbryde Hospice.\u00a0 These will be collected next week, and we have a speaker from the Hospice coming to our Assembly on Friday 20th<\/sup> March.<\/p>\n

Today, at Assembly, Lesley from Loaves and Fishes spoke to the children about the support they give to local families.\u00a0 Next week, donations of any food, toiletries and household items can be handed in to school.<\/p>\n

We very much appreciate all the donations and acts of kindness during our Almsgiving Lenten Appeal weeks.<\/p>\n

Bishop Toal<\/h2>\n

We are looking forward to welcoming Bishop Toal to our school on Wednesday 11th<\/sup> March.\u00a0 He is going to attend an assembly with us in the morning led by P7.\u00a0 They are delivering a presentation on the parable of The Good Samaritan.\u00a0 All our children in P1-7 have been practising their hymns and will join us during the assembly.\u00a0 Following it, Bishop Toal will meet with those children in P7 who are due to receive The Sacrament of Confirmation later this month.<\/p>\n

World Book Day<\/h2>\n

We had lots of fun in school on Thursday celebrating our love of reading during World Book Day.\u00a0 The children engaged in a range of learning activities including a scavenger hunt, during which the older pupils supported the younger ones.\u00a0 Our chosen book this year was The Day the Crayons Quit which has themes regarding creativity, perspective, empathy, and personal expression.<\/p>\n

Thank you for supporting our tuck shop this week which we ran due to having some left-over items from last week\u2019s cake and candy.\u00a0 Today was our energetic day, during which all the classes had some time on the obstacle course.\u00a0 Funds today were for Mary\u2019s Meals.<\/p>\n

On Friday 13th<\/sup> March, we kindly ask for donations of Easter Eggs which will be donated to Kilbryde Hospice for their Easter Fayre.<\/p>\n

World Book Day<\/h2>\n

We will be celebrating our love of reading on World Book Day, Thursday 5th<\/sup> March.\u00a0 Children are invited to wear their favourite colour to school (no football strips are permitted).\u00a0 We will also be having a book swap and ask that children wishing to participate bring in a book they are happy to swap no later than Wednesday.<\/p>\n

You may have noticed Bud, the bus in the playground on Tuesday.\u00a0 Bud, is PoppyScotlands mini museum which travels around schools. Rooms 8, 9 and 10 engaged in a range of activities in the bus; learning about the wars, veterans and how we can support.<\/p>\n

P7 Residential<\/h2>\n

Our P7 class had a fantastic time this week on their residential at Inverclyde Sports Centre.\u00a0 A range of activities including lacrosse, handball, gymnastics and archery to name but a few were undertaken.\u00a0 A huge thank you to Mrs Dorman for coordinating the organisation of the residential and to Mrs Tyler, Mrs Toner and Miss Clark who took time away from their own family commitments to attend.\u00a0 Everyone is now ready for a rest over the weekend!<\/p>\n

Many thanks to\u00a0Room 5 families\u00a0who\u00a0attended today\u2019s learning\u00a0session on\u00a0The Egyptians.\u00a0\u00a0It was great to see so many people managing to make it along and enjoying\u00a0sharing the learning undertaken by their child and class.\u00a0\u00a0Apologies for the technical mishaps and delay to the start. \u00a0The joys\u00a0of\u00a0technology!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Photographer<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Our photographer will be back with us on Wednesday 4<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0February and will take year group photographs of P1 and P7. \u00a0The uptake of\u00a0purchase of\u00a0other year groups is very few so to save interruption to teaching and learning we will not\u00a0take photographs\u00a0P2-P6.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

P1 and P7 should therefore wear shirt\/tie\u00a0on Wednesday.\u00a0\u00a0Additionally, if your child was absent this week then they will be able to have their photograph taken on\u00a0Wednesday\u00a0too.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A huge thanks to two of our parents who\u00a0assisted\u00a0with the photographs being taken and gathering the children for us. \u00a0This is a huge task and ensures the class can remain\u00a0learning\u00a0while only a few are away at a time.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The nursery will also have individual photographs taken on the same day.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Please can you have a look at home and see if you have any class reading books. \u00a0We have a\u00a0significant number\u00a0of books\u00a0missing and this has resulted in us being unable to issue group books for going home due to the\u00a0very limited\u00a0copies we now have in school. \u00a0Thank you for looking and returning these to us.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Science Centre Roadshow<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

The school received \u00a31000 via the Local Action\u00a0Fund,\u00a0and we used this money to\u00a0purchase\u00a0two-day\u00a0sessions delivered by The Science Centre with all classes.\u00a0\u00a0P1-4\u00a0thoroughly\u00a0enjoyed their\u00a0Fitlab\u00a0session on Monday with P5-7 also\u00a0having a lot of fun and excitement with their\u00a0Powering\u00a0the\u00a0Future\u00a0on Tuesday.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

P1 Enrolment<\/h2>\n

P1 Enrolments for August 2026 have continued to take place this week.\u00a0 Please ensure if your child is due to start school in August that you complete enrolment for them in their catchment school.<\/p>\n

Competition<\/h2>\n

All P6 children participated in an ‘Agri-tech in Action’<\/em> workshop a few months ago as part of their Learning for Sustainability \/ STEM curriculum. They entered a competition to design a piece of Agri-tech that would help farmers on their farm. The competition was run across several schools in South Lanarkshire, and we are delighted to share that two of our pupils, Magnus & Roman, worked on a joint design and have been selected as a runner-up in this competition! They will receive a goody bag from Smart STEMs next week.<\/p>\n

Car Parking and Safety<\/h2>\n

A polite reminder that the staff car park should only be used by disabled blue badge holders.\u00a0 All other cars should park in the overspill car park.\u00a0 The staff car is not a drop off zone either.\u00a0 There have been recent occasions of cars parking in the staff car park, double parking and children running to meet an adult.\u00a0 This is unsafe and we ask that you park appropriately and safely.<\/p>\n

The school photographer will be taking individual photographs on Wednesday 28th<\/sup> and Thursday 29th<\/sup> January.\u00a0 All children are asked to wear their school uniform (shirt\/tie) on these days.<\/p>\n

Thank you\u00a0to our P4\u00a0parents\/carers for attending\u00a0this week\u2019s Advent Assembly. The whole school joined in the celebration as we concluded our Advent series.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We have thoroughly enjoyed presenting our weekly Advent Assemblies and ensuring that all our year groups have had the opportunity to present either an assembly or Nativity to their parents and carers.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Our P2 and P3 children delivered a fantastic Nativity to their families on Wednesday.\u00a0Their singing was\u00a0outstanding\u00a0and the acting was superb.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Catholic Education Week<\/h2>\n

From 16th<\/sup> November to 30th<\/sup> November, the Feast Days of St. Margaret and St. Andrew we annually celebrate Catholic Education Week across Scotland.\u00a0 Within classes during RE lessons the children have been engaging in a variety of experiences linked to being Pilgrims of Hope, the Jubilee Year Theme.<\/p>\n

Today at Assembly some of P7 led us in a prayer and reflection session on this theme.<\/p>\n

We reflected on how we can build on our relationship with God, with others and with the environment. Furthermore, in our journey as a Pilgrim of Hope we can live life with an open heart, thinking mind and working hands through using our gifts and talents to help others, make the world better and recognising that even small steps taken can lead to better things and change.\u00a0 As Pilgrims of Hope, we aim to act with kindness, faith and courage.<\/p>\n

Book Week Scotland<\/h2>\n

We have had a very busy week enjoying lots of activities linked to Book Week Scotland.\u00a0 One activity was for our upper and lower school classes who had shared learning time together and created their own Paper Doll after reading the book.<\/p>\n

P1-3 have all received their Scottish Book Trust bag and we hope you enjoy reading these at home together.<\/p>\n

Anti-Bullying Week<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

This week our children have been engaging in lessons around the theme of anti-bullying and gaining a deeper understanding on how impactful our words and actions can have at times on others.\u00a0 We regularly celebrate the kindness of others and friendship shown but it is also important that children understand the negative impact that sometimes our behaviour can have on other people and their feelings.\u00a0 Please discuss this theme with your child at home and what they have been learning about this week.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Book Week Scotland\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Next week is Book Week Scotland and our P1-3 children will be gifted their Book Bag from The Scottish Book Trust.\u00a0 These are fantastic bags containing books and games.\u00a0 Reading has significant positive impact on a child\u2019s development and is one of the main things as educators we urge parents to do at home on a nightly basis.\u00a0 Enjoying books together, talking about the book, predicting what might happen, developing vocabulary and knowledge about the world.\u00a0 This also then leads into enhancing their development of literacy skills, critical thinking, imagination and raised attainment.\u00a0 It further supports with emotional and social intelligence as well as comfort and security.\u00a0 Daily reading at home is essential and strongly encouraged.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Today we welcomed Gerard from MISSIO to our Assembly.\u00a0 He spoke to the children about the work that the charity does and how their fundraising helps.\u00a0 Our MISSIO Champions in P6 collect in weekly donations from all classes.\u00a0 Children are welcome to bring in a few pennies every week to pop in their class donation box.\u00a0 Thank you for your support in this.\u00a0 Further details on the charity can be found via their website: <\/span>https:\/\/missio.org.uk\/<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Restart a Heart<\/h2>\n

This week our classes engaged in a live lesson on CPR and using a Defib.\u00a0 This can be viewed again by you at home if you wish to do so via the link.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

An email was issued today with a registration link to assist us with information on how many children are attending the concert.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Children should arrive at 6pm via the main school entrance and report to the PTA\/Staff in the dining hall. \u00a0They should be collected following the concert at 7.30pm. \u00a0For safe exit we will dismiss children via the dining hall class by class. \u00a0Parents\/carers are asked to wait in the playground at this time. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Our P7 class attended a Jubilee Celebration Mass along with 2000 other P7 pupils from schools in Motherwell Diocese yesterday at Carfin.\u00a0 This was a wonderful opportunity to come together to celebrate the Jubilee Year and reflect on how they are also Pilgrims of Hope.<\/p>\n
