Keyworker Access to School Information

January 2021

To qualify for a place within school for emergency care then both (lone parent) parents must be keyworkers.  The information as to these jobs is listed below.  The guidance is also that children should only be sent to school if there is no alternative childcare arrangements that can be organised.  Additionally, it should only be accessed when parents are working.  The safest place to be is at home and parents are asked to strongly consider if they must use this service.

For those children attending St. Leonard’s, we ask that they bring in their home learning emergency paper pack which was issued in November.  During the day they will be supported by a teacher and support assistant in accessing and completing their Google Classroom learning activities as outlined by their class teacher.

Our nursery children should access the building via the nursery main entrance at 9am and be collected from there.

Our P1-3 children should access the playground and line up outside Room 1 at 9am.  They can be collected from there at 3pm.

Our P4-7 children should access the playground and line up outside the dining hall at 9am.  They can be collected from there at 3pm.

Due to the structure of the day we ask that all are punctual at 9am even if you don’t begin work until e.g. 10am.  This is essential as they will start to access their learning activities immediately.  If you finish work and can collect them before 3pm then please do so as we will ensure literacy and numeracy is covered before the lunch break. If you are coming earlier in the day to collect your child then please do so via visiting the nursery or school office as appropriate.

  • Category 1 – Health and Care workers directly supporting COVID response, and associated staff; Health and Care workers supporting life threatening emergency work, as well as critical primary and community care provision; Energy suppliers (small numbers identified as top priority already); staff providing childcare/learning for other category 1 staff.
  • Category 2 – All other Health and Care workers, and wider public sector workers providing emergency/critical welfare services (for example: fire, police, prisons, social workers, courts), as well as those supporting our Critical National Infrastructure, without whom serious damage to the welfare of the people of Scotland could be caused.
  • Category 3 – All workers (private, public or third sector) without whom there could be a significant impact on Scotland (but where the response to COVID-19, or the ability to perform essential tasks to keep the country running, would not be severely compromised).
