Application Guidance: STEM Grant Guidance Round 3 2021.23

IMPORTANT instructions – please read carefully before you complete the online application.

1.  We strongly advise applicants to prepare and submit their bids well before the deadline on the 24th May. This will allow us to provide appropriate support should you experience technical difficulties with the online application process. We suggest that applications are submitted the week beginning the 17th May, where possible.

2.  We strongly advise you to prepare your application form offline initially, in MS Word or similar. You should save this draft to your own computer before beginning the online application process. This will ensure you have a back-up copy of the main body of your text should anything go wrong. This will also make the online application process quicker as you will be able to cut and paste your responses into the main sections of the online application form. A PDF version of the application form is provided to let you see the information you will be asked to provide. PDF Version of STEM Grant Online Application

3.  Each time you log in to this system you have a three hour window to complete and submit your application. After three hours your session will time out and any unsaved information will be lost. To avoid losing the information you have entered, you must either save your application, or submit it, within this three-hour timeframe.

4.  For data security reasons, you should avoid leaving your computer unattended whilst the online application process remains open. You should also ensure you are connected to a secure network. For example, you should avoid completing this application using a public Wi-Fi network, such as in a café, where others may be able to access your connection and data

The Enhancing Professional Learning in STEM Grants Programme was launched in October 2018 to build the capacity and confidence of practitioners and to support the implementation of the STEM Education and Training Strategy for Scotland.

The STEM Grants Programme has two funding streams.  These are as follows:

  • The Leadership and Collegiate Learning Fund is for professional learning developed and led by practitioners, centres and settings to meet their own needs.
  • The Regional and National Partner Fund is for larger scale projects operating across authorities, regions and nationally.

The aim of the Enhancing Professional Learning in STEM Grants Programme is to stimulate, support and grow programmes that enhance the professional learning available to practitioners who have a responsibility or interest in all aspects of STEM-related learning, teaching and assessment.

A significant focus of the programme is to address the barriers that practitioners face in accessing appropriate high-quality professional learning that meets their needs.

Education Scotland is keen to ensure that we see a transformation in the provision of professional learning to all the target sectors, which includes some 86,000 practitioners. It is also important that there is an equity of access to professional learning across various sectors, geographical areas, work patterns and developmental stage.

Priority areas for Round 3 (2021-23)

  • Bids for all aspects of STEM including STEM IDL encouraged.
  • Out of a total fund value of £400k, £200k will be ring-fenced for bids where the main focus areas are Numeracy and Mathematics.
  • Bids for engineering and technologies are particularly welcome as our surveys are telling us these are where gaps are.
  • Our surveys have also indicated that the following sectors are priority areas:
    • additional support needs
    • early learning and childcare
    • community learning and development
    • school-based technical support staff.

Maximum level of funding for this year

  • Leadership & Collegiate Learning Fund = £3,000
  • Regional & National Partner Fund = £10,000

For further guidance on funding or any aspect of the application process; from scoping your project to completing the application form – see Application Guidance Document.
