Identification of Skills and Knowledge to be Developed

Skills to be Developed

  • Confidence;
    • I must be confident throughout my placement, especially when teaching environmental education to the children. Showing confidence allows the children to see that I am confident in what I am teaching them. I must also be confident in my own ability to teach the children and lead activities, as I know that I am competent enough to do so.
  • Leadership;
    • I will be showing leadership during my placement, by leading groups to and from activities, and will also be teaching lessons.
  • Risk Taking;
    • During my placement, I will be taking risks when teaching environmental education, as this is not an area which I am confident in. Moreover, outdoor education involves a lot of risk taking in itself, and it is important to ensure that I am confident in doing so.
  • Communication;
    • Throughout my placement I need to be able to communicate with everyone I am working with, including; children and other staff. However, when I’m nervous, I sometimes find it hard to communicate clearly and effectively.

Knowledge to be Developed

As previously stated I am not extremely confident in science, and therefore this placement will provide me with the perfect opportunity to develop my scientific knowledge. I will be working with animals and plants daily, as well observing and teaching environmental education lessons.
