Why I want to teach

It all started in primary 5, early I know, but since then I have been passionate and determined about becoming a teacher.

In primary school creativity and the arts were my strengths, I struggled more with the academic side such as maths and literacy and required some extra support. The teacher didn’t take into account my preferred learning method or my strengths. I want to be there for the pupils that I teach and support them to the best of my ability. I want to make a difference. I want to be that teacher that people remember years and years down the line.

Personally, I don’t understand why, whilst following the curriculum, children who perhaps struggle writing cant dance their homework or sing their story.  however, I do understand the importance of the curriculum and that all children should have a strong understanding of it, but we should be encouraging the creative arts in all we do.

As well as this I want to promote  and enforce equity rather than equality.  This for me is very important and something I was to continue doing throughout my career.

I am very passionate about working with children. The job is very challenging but also very rewarding. When you witness a child demonstrate and show understanding of something you have shown them, it is the most rewarding thing ever.

I have had many years of experience working with children in all different capacities from: after school club, holiday club, Au pair and in school placements. Every opportunity and experience I have had has reinforced how much i want to become a teacher.
