Standard for Provisional Registration

The Standard for Provisional Registration (SPR) specifies what is expected of a student teacher at the end of Initial Teacher Education who is seeking provisional registration with GTC Scotland. Having gained the SPR, all provisionally registered teachers continue their professional learning journey by moving towards the attainment of the Standard for Full Registration.

This video summarises all the GTCS’ Standards:

Over the four years of your MA course, you will map your professional experiences and reflections against all aspects of the SPR.

The Standards for Provisional Registration is split into 3 sections. The first section is Professional Values and Personal Commitment. This section highlights the importance of values and how they are at the core of the standards. As an educator, your own personal values are heightened as learners are heavily influenced by there peers values. The professional values and personal commitments are Social Justice, integrity, trust & respect and professional commitment. Also as a teacher asking yourself critical questions of education policies and practices relates to professionalism. Values and connections need to be kept up to date as with time society and needs for learners change and their own understanding develops.

The second section of The Standards for Provisional Registration is Professional Knowledge & Understanding. In this section, there are different outcome headings. They are as follows; curriculum, education systems and professional responsibilities and pedagogical theories and practise. Under all 3 headings, there are different outcomes to make sure these are met.

The third section of The Standards for Provision Registration is Professional Skills and abilities. This follows the same format as the second section. The different outcome headings are as follows; Teaching and Learning, Class organisation and Management, Pupil Assessment and Professional Reflection and communication.
