Room 26

We have had a very busy time in room 26 recently.

 

In Numeracy, we have been working on our written addition. Assuring we have the correct layout to help us what carrying over.

In reading, we have been continuing to develop our fluency when reading aloud and using the different reading strategies to improve our understanding of the text being read.

We have been working hard on our 500 word story competition entries in writing, trying very hard to engage our audience.

We created sugar skulls using oil pastels after learning about dia de los muertos. These turned out amazing 🙂

Finally, we have started our Natural Disasters topic and have been enjoying learning about how tornadoes are formed and the impact these can have to peoples lives and the environment!

Reading Ambassadors 📚

Well done to our fantastic Reading Ambassadors who made their way round all 27 classes this week to introduce themselves and share a story. The teachers and pupils were full of praise! Reading Ambassadors, you were confident, patient and worked so hard preparing for your visits, well done!

Now time to get planning Book Week which begins week commencing 27th November! 📚

WW2 Museum

Room 23 and 24 had an exciting day on Monday as our WW2 topic was brought to life with our own private museum!

We explored artefacts from both the Allies and Axis Powers and read from a variety of sources. Thanks to Boo and Maya for your contributions!

Our Showcase

The pupils enjoyed taking part in our World War II Museum this week. Miss McIver kindly organised for a range of artefacts to be brought in and displayed for the pupils to see and peruse. They were able to see in real life some items and artefacts that were used during WWII. While each class was visiting the museum, the other pupils took part in a collaborative task, drawing and labelling the uniform of a typical WWII soldier. After learning about the kit used and comparing it to that of a WWI soldier the pupils worked in pairs to draw a diagram of a soldier. See some examples below.

 

Thank you so much to all of the friends and family of the pupils in Room 24 who came along to our Showcase this week.

The pupils absolutely loved sharing their learning with you all and showing you around our class room 🙂  

Autumn Activities

We have had another busy week in Room 14. We started this week by celebrating Halloween. We had some snacks and a drink in class and had fun during the Primary 4 parade before dancing to a few spooky songs in the gym hall. Your costumes were great.

We used our Halloween emotion pumpkins and the orange cog to think about the different feelings characters had in my favourite book, The Lorax. We were also inspired to write our own stories after a visit from our reading ambassadors, Jackson and Poppy.

In Maths, the Cylinders group enjoyed lessons with Miss Anderson about Shape. The Cubes have been working on their ability to add in columns.

Today we went around the school grounds collecting leaves, stones and twigs. We looked at some pieces of Art by Andy Goldsworthy, a British artist, and then had a go at creating our own Land Art. The finished pieces were excellent.

We finished today by having a PE session outside on the pitches.  We are working on our racquet skills during badminton and tennis sessions.

Room 7

This week in Room 7…

JB – We learn four new common words –  blue, best, other and number.

GC – I liked making a firework picture with chalk.

LC – I enjoyed making firework pictures.

AD – I enjoyed drawing fireworks with my friend.

ED – I enjoyed creating a firework picture with my friends.

RD – I enjoyed reading in the library.

BF – I enjoyed when one of the reading ambassadors read a story to us.

FF –  I liked learning about information reports in writing.

AH – I enjoyed counting by 2s.

EK – I liked going to the library and choosing a new book.

RK – I liked learning about firework safety.

DL – I learnt how to keep safe on Bonfire night at assembly.

EL – I counted in 10s up to 100.

CM – I liked playing disco tig in PE.

TM – I liked playing team games in PE.

JM – I liked choosing a new book at the library

LM – I enjoyed watching Katie Morag and learning about family trees.

LM – I liked listening to our class novel – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

HM – I liked learning about Bonfire night safety and drawing fireworks.

LN – I liked creating a spaceport and a spaceship with the lego.

PP – I liked learning our new sound ‘ue’.

CP – I like counting in 1s to 100.

EP – I liked dancing at our halloween party with Miss Finch.

JS – I liked drawing fireworks with chalk.

MS – I liked creating a spaceport with the lego.

JS – We practiced adding in maths.

CT – I liked going to the library.

Room 15

We have had a busy week in Room 15. The children would like to share some of the learning and activities they have been doing!

” In room 15 we made 1960’s fashion clothes and searched on the iPad for some inspirations. The colours from the sixties are big and bold!” – Ava

“We made 1960’s newspaper articles about the moon landing. We used research to learn about what happened and what the men done when they got to the moon. Fun Fact: Buzz Aldrin tried to bunny hop across the moon surface!” – Mila

“I enjoyed tag rugby in PE!” – Harrison

“In RME we learned about Kosher and Non-Kosher foods. We made a menu for a Rabbi coming for dinner!” – Harley

A busy week in Room 5!

This week,

L – We have been learning a new song called ‘Holly Jolly Christmas’ for our Christmas show.

J – We have been learning about the sound ‘ue’. I own a Star Mathematician certificate that I got at assembly. I feel really happy.

L – We have been counting in 3s – 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36.

A – We have school jobs and I am Teacher’s Helper.

E – We count to 100.

A – We did gym. We did toilet tig, banana tig and we were doing exercise with our feet like ball skills.

F – We have been starting house points. I have seven house points and you have to be really good and do really good work to get a house point. I am in the water house.

L – Firework night is on Sunday. We watched Fireman Sam at assembly who was telling us about fireworks and how to stay safe. Keep your pets indoors and keep windows shut.

R – We’ve been counting in tens – 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100.

Today we had a visit from the reading ambassadors. They read us a story about a bunny. The bunny was mean in the story but then they made a surprise birthday party for him and he became less mean. Thank you for coming to visit us.


On Tuesday, we celebrated Halloween. We dressed up in fantastic costumes, thank you for helping the children with this. We had a little parade in the morning and then celebrated with a little party in the afternoon. We played pin the hat on the witch and two of us managed to get the hat accurately onto the witch’s head. It was great fun.

Today we marked Bonfire Night by having a discussion about the significance of the event. We watched some clips of fireworks and used this as inspiration to create our own firework art. We used chalk and used our fingers to blend the colours. Take a look at some of our pictures, they look fab! 🙂 Have a fun and safe weekend if you are planning to mark the occasion.
