Nursery Home Learning Grid

Dear Parents/Carers

We hope managed to enjoy the recent bank holiday, despite the change in the weather – although it did leave some great puddles to splash in!  Hopefully the sun is back to stay for a few more days now!

We have attached an updated home learning grid to support you and your family as you continue to learn from home.  We hope you find the resources and activities useful, but please remember that there is no expectation or pressure for your child to complete all of the activities on the grid.  Please continue to encourage them to play and learn at their own place and in a way that suits you and your family circumstances.

Home Learning Grid 3

Being part of your child’s learning and achievements is a privilege for us at Newton Farm Nursery and we would like to keep in touch with you even though our nursery is closed.  We are really enjoying seeing all of your pictures from home – if you would like to share your child’s learning journey with us, or any special achievements your child has made at home please e-mail your pictures or story to Mrs Norton at gw17nortonvictoria@glow.sch.uk

We hope the resources provided are helpful and supportive during this time.  We wish you and your families well and hope you enjoy exploring, playing and learning together.

Thank you as always for all your support.

Respect Mascots

Ms Hogg and Mrs Webber are missing their weekly get togethers at assembly so much that they have been doing virtual assemblies on Google Classroom for the last few weeks.

We have been looking at our school values and we challenged pupils to create a mascot for Respect. If you click on the video below, you’ll see the fantastic entries that we received across the school.

We’ll be setting this challenge for each value over the coming weeks, so keep a look out on Google Classroom and get creating! When we’re back at school, we’ll be asking the Pupil Council to choose a mascot for each school value.

Sun and rainbow. | Clip art, My cute love, Rainbow kids

Dear Nursery Parents/Carers

We hope you and your family are staying well and you have enjoyed the sun over the long bank holiday weekend.

Please find attached an updated nursery home learning grid to give you some more ideas of activities you can do at home with your child. We hope you find the resources useful, but please remember that there is no pressure or expectation that your child completes all of the activities on the grid.  Please continue to encourage them to play and learn at their own place and in a way that suits you and your family.

Home Learning Grid 2

We love seeing pictures of what the nursery boys and girls have been doing at home.  If you would like to share your child’s learning journey – either doing an activity from the grid, or something else – we would love to hear from you.  Please e-mail your pictures or story to Mrs Norton at gw17nortonvictoria@glow.sch.uk

We wish you and your families well as you continue to play, explore and learn together.

Primary 7 Transition to Uddingston Grammar

Uddingston Grammar have asked our Primary 7 pupils to complete a questionnaire so that they can get to know them better. The answers will also be the basis for some Q&A sessions that they plan to hold for P7s.
To fill in the questionnaire, Primary 7 pupils need to log on to Glow and then click on the link below.
https://forms.gle/vxNoQp6pWjbzgThR8
I’ve also attached a letter sent out by Mrs McTiernan who is DHT at Uddingston Grammar and who has responsibility for S1 and S2.
Lastly, Uddingston Grammar have set up a Twiiter account just for P7s who are moving on to S1. You can find it on Twitter using @7_ugs. Keep an eye on it for information, videos from staff and even some exciting challenges. I’ll post everything that I can on Google Classroom and on the blog too, so that if you don’t have Twitter, you can still see what’s going on.

Bookbug turns 10!

We know lots of our children and families have enjoyed Bookbug over the years and this year, they are celebrating their 10th birthday. Have a look at the message they’ve asked us to share with you!

“Bookbug turns 10 this year and we will be having some special online celebrations for Bookbug Week from 18-24 May. There are lots of ways to take part at home and enjoy the fun!

Before Bookbug Week starts, we’ll be marking 10 years of the Bookbug programme starting from 11 May, and will have a very special message from the First Minister to share with you. We’d also love to feature your thoughts on the impact of Bookbug, any memories you have or what Bookbug means to you. If you have something to share please let us know.

Bookbug Week will be online from Monday 18 May. We will be having a special drawalong with Debi Gliori from Monday to Friday where we can learn how to draw Bookbug and some very special friends in bitesize films. We will also have a very special film with Debi Gliori as she explains how she created Bookbug!

Sprog Rock have created an exclusive new song for the Bookbug app to celebrate Bookbug’s Birthday! This will be launching on Wednesday 20th in our popular midweek rhyme slot!

We’ll have a special celebratory static Bookbug Session for families to try at home themselves on the website on Monday 18 and our new live with Paul Bookbug Session on Bookbug’s Facebook page for everyone to join in with on Friday 22 at 10am. Please tune in and sing happy birthday at the top of your voices.

Our home activities hub will be packed with even more themed ideas to try at home, from making a party hat to colouring in Bookbug.

All through the week we’ll also have special competitons on our website and social media, and be asking for families’ memories of their child’s Bookbug Bags and Bookbug Sessions with their wee ones. We’re also hoping little ones might make a birthday card for Bookbug, take a photo and share it with us! “

A Message from the Nursery Team

Dear Nursery Parents/Carers

We hope you and your family have stayed safe and healthy and have been able to enjoy some of the sunshine which has appeared recently.

Being part of your child’s learning, development and achievements is a privilege for us at Newton Farm Nursery and we would like to keep in touch with you even though our nursery is closed.  If you would like to share your child’s learning journey with us, or any special achievements your child has made at home, we would love to hear from you!  Please e-mail your pictures or story to Mrs Norton at gw17nortonvictoria@glow.sch.uk

To support you during this lockdown period we have put together a learning grid for our nursery children which is designed to give you some ideas of activities you can do with your child at home – this has been published at the following blog post https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/glowblogs/newtonfarm/2020/04/27/nursery-home-learning/.

We aim to share a new grid every two weeks to support you, but I would like to emphasise that we do not wish to add any pressure to families and there is no expectation that children complete the activities on the grid.  Please encourage them to learn as they play at their own pace and in a way that suits your family circumstances.

We hope the resources provided are helpful and supportive during this time.  We wish you and your families well and hope you enjoy exploring, playing and learning together.

Thank you as always for all your support.
