A Chocolate Filled Week

This week in Room 6, we were experimenting with chocolate. We talked about chocolate changing from a solid to a liquid when melting, and how the heat from the microwave helped this. We also learned that if we let the chocolate mixture cool down, then it will turn back to solid again and this is called a reversible change. We also enjoyed eating our chocolate fruit skewers after experimenting with the chocolate! For next weeks lesson, our prediction is that dark chocolate and white chocolate will melt the same as milk chocolate and we are excited to see if we are right! We spent some time on Wednesday writing instructions for ‘How to Make a Chocolate Fruit Skewer’, ask us about how we did this!

This week our sound was ‘ll’, and we worked hard on learning the rule that ‘ll’ always follows a vowel. For maths this week we have been trying different strategies to help us to do mental maths, such as using ‘chimney sums’ or breaking the numbers up for example (172+102 would be 100+100, 72+2). We are enjoying using the concrete materials to help us get to the right answer to.
