Ahead of the upcoming Christmas break, Room 3 have been enjoying getting festive. During our play, we had opportunity to explore the theme of winter and Christmas through different experiences. Three stations were set up, all focussing on an area of winter or Christmas. In the construction area, learners had the chance to design and build Santa’s sleigh or workshop. In the creative area, resources were provided for children to write and create their own Christmas card for friends and family. A challenge was also set up using different building materials such as cotton wool, cups, baking paper, drawing paper, Lego and cubes, which allowed pupils to use their imaginations to create a Winter Wonderland. Have a look at some of the fantastic builds/designs that we came up with in these play stations.
This week, Room 3 have also been focussing on the non-number topic of measure. We have been excited to explore different ways to both accurately complete and discuss measure when investigating dinosaurs. We used non-standard units to carry out measurements on dinosaur toys, pictures, footprints and eggs. We have been learning about heavier and lighter, taller and shorter, longer and smaller, as well as what the word ‘equal’ means. Items used to measure were objects such as cubes, pencils, paper clips, counting animals and rulers. We even had a challenge using rulers too.
To finish off the term, we had a fantastic party this afternoon with the rest of P1. We are all definitely feeling festive and ready for the holidays.
