🤩 Victoria Williamson Author Visit in Room 20 🤩

On Monday 20th June, P5/6 had the fantastic opportunity to meet the author of the novels they’ve been reading this term – in real life!

We’ve been reading two novels by Victoria Williamson side-by-side this term; The Fox Girl and the White Gazelle (whole class novel study) and The Boy with the Butterfly Mind (reading for pleasure novel).

Victoria came to talk to us about ‘Fox Girl’ as it links with our current War and Conflict topic. The novel follows the story of 2 girls; one from Glasgow and the other, a refugee from Syria. It’s a brilliantly written, uplifting story about the power of friendship and belonging.

The class took part in various activities from selecting which items they would pack in a hurry if they were fleeing violence, to learning about bias and scrutinising newspaper headlines. Victoria brought along some items that feature in the story too such as a My Little Pony cuddly toy and a green head scarf, that was modelled extremely well by one of our pupils!

The visit concluded with Victoria reading a section from the next chapter in the book (that left us on a total cliffhanger!) and signing copies of her books and postcards for the class.

What a fantastic start to our final week of term 🤩
