Newton Farm Primary School and Nursery Class

Room 8

Hi everyone,

This week in room 8 we have continued to consolidate our literacy learning. Our focus has been on our common words, the ‘ow’ as in owl sound and the ‘ou’ sound. The boys and girls have been impressing us with their knowledge and have been working hard on their spelling. New reading books were also issued in class and we used them to write character profiles. Today we started looking at our handwriting and plan to have lessons on this every week moving forward.

In maths we introduced subtraction. So far, we have been looking at revising subtraction within 10, with some challenges thrown in. The boys and girls have made use of concrete materials, number lines and games to help them revise. Mr MacKay has also been teaching us about time. This week we were learning about the months of the year.

In other areas we have been learning how to ask and say our age in French, about our senses and amazing brain in science along with healthy eating and the way that it provides us with energy. We also sent emails to friends during ICT.

It has been a very busy week and the boys and girls have worked hard.

Finally, one of our pupils also brought us in the wonderful book he made. It was full of fabulous information on different insects and bugs. We were all very proud of his hard work!!

Have a super weekend.

Mrs Royle.
