Our Week in Room 7

A short but busy week for the learners in Room 7! Our rhyme for the week was “12345 Once I Caught a Fish Alive”, we created fish puppets to help us memorise the words and we identified the rhyming words.

In Numeracy, some children were comparing numbers using ‘most’ and ‘least. Our circles group continued their work with Feathery Four and continued formation of and counting with numbers 0-4. Later in the week some of the boys were introduced to a new textbook and revised some addition strategies. We talked about the different ways we got to the answer and found it really interesting that we could choose different methods but still end up at the same correct answer!

We had the musical instruments back out for music and created soft and loud sounds. The children were excellent at following the composer’s (Miss Duffy) hand gestures and could stop and start on cue.

The class continue to learn about the Jewish Harvest festival of Sukkot and learned about wooden structures called ‘Sukkahs’ which play an important role during the celebrations.

As part of our castles and knights topic we looked at famous battle sieges and learned about the famous siege of Edinburgh Castle! We investigated the role of a knight in battle and their weapons used using small world figures. We then created our own weapons and shield for our own paper knights which are now proudly displayed outside of our classroom!
