Newton Farm Primary School and Nursery Class

Room 6 – Developing the Young Workforce

This week has been very special because we have been learning about jobs and our community as part of our Developing Young Workforce topic.

On Monday we found out that a community is made up of people living or working within the same place. Our community is called Newton Farm. We also found out about villages, towns and cities. Then we had a discussion about what jobs we might find in our community. Our main task was to draw three job pictures for our partner to guess.

On Tuesday we went on a virtual walk around Newton Farm and Drumsagard, using Google Earth. This allowed us to see the jobs and businesses in our community. Mr Allen said he was very tired from all the walking during the virtual tour. 🤣 We also played a game of guess the job.

On Wednesday we were learning about skills and qualities. A skill is something you are good at after some training and a quality is to do with our character. We played a matching game where we had to match the skills and qualities with the correct job. Our main task was to highlight our skills on our balloon pictures.

Today we talked about what we want to be when we grow up. Then we drew a picture of our dream job. Most people wanted to be a footballer, a dancer, a singer or a gymnastics instructor. We also had someone who wanted to be a fashion designer.
