We’ve had a busy couple of weeks in P4/5! Our focus has been on heath and wellbeing and we’ve completed lots of different activities.
We had a look at sun safety, discussing the need to protect ourselves from UV rays. We made keyrings with UV beads that change colour when they are exposed to these rays. It was a fun experiment to see them change colour on a bright, sunny day and then to see them still change on a cloudy day! This let us know that UV rays are often present, even when it seems dull outside!
We’ve been taking part in an athletics championship with Miss Finch on Wednesdays. We’ve been practising our sprint running, hurdles and javelin throwing to name a few. We had a mini fun sports event too with a sprint race, sack race and potato and spoon race. We’re practising a little more for the upcoming three-legged race!
Something we love to take part in, in P4/5, is mindfulness. We’ve been practising our deep breathing skills and learning how to relax while listening to soothing music/sounds. We’ve also completed some mindfulness colouring of Glasgow landmarks, as ‘Glasgow’ is our current topic in class. We think our display looks great!
We’ve been discussing lots to do with friendships and what to do when friends fall out. We used little puppets on lollipop sticks to act out different ‘falling out’ scenes. The class then had to give advice for the friends and discuss what they could do to avoid falling out again. There was lots of super discussions going on!
Last week was also Nurture Week and each class was given a sunflower seed to sow and take care of. We were lucky enough to be able to give all our pupils in P4/5 a sunflower seed of their own to plant in class. We are currently watering them and making sure they get enough sunlight each day. We’ll upload some photos once when they start to sprout!
