We are so sorry we have been so quiet over the last few weeks. We had a crazy December with lots of Christmas fun and are now excited to be back starting a brand new term. Here is a quick update of all the exciting things we have been up to since you last heard from us!

Before we stopped for Christmas we sent cards to Dewar House, a care home in Hamilton. Some of the children did this last year and were keen to do it again. We made beautiful water colour cards and sent kind messages inside. We heard back from Dewar House who were so grateful to the children for taking the time to send cards and even sent some pictures of the residents with our cards. This made us so happy and proud.

First week back we had an amazing experience which I am sure the children have told you about. Skills Development Scotland came to visit us to give us the opportunity to think about careers in the future as well as jobs that don’t even exist yet! The children had the opportunity to work with LEGO MINDSTORMS where the children used coding to control their LEGO cars. We learnt the importance of communication, problem solving and team work. See pictures below!

We have four new Language Ambassadors who  will be working with Madame Robinson to develop Languages across the school. Their application forms were fantastic and I am sure they will do an amazing job!

During maths and numeracy this week we have started learning about decimals. The children were showing different representations of decimals through concrete materials and number form. The children worked in pairs and discussed which representation worked best for them.

Finally, I am sure the children have been buzzing at home as much as they have in class about the BBC Radio 2 500 word competition. We are well underway with our stories. The children are learning the tough process authors go through when perfecting their work. The children have received praise as well as constructive criticism from their peers as well as myself. Everybody has had a fantastic attitude to this challenge and are in the process of creating some brilliant masterpieces!
