Exploring Literacy Across the Nursery

In the nursery we offer the children experiences and opportunities for play that supportĀ learning in our three core curricular areas: literacy, mathematics and health and wellbeing.

In this week’s blog post I want to share some of the ways that the children have been developing their literacy and communication skills as they play.

Listening and Talking

Role play gives our children opportunities to develop their listening and talking skills as they take on a character and create their own stories.

Opportunities for mark-making support pre-writing skills and play-dough helps develop children’s fine motor skills which are essential for handwriting.

Our story corner is a great space to sit and listenĀ to a story.
