Most developed countries manage to satisfy basic needs of their populations<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">although the government can step in to ensure that basic needs have been met.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Wants<\/strong> are goods and services over and above those needed for survival eg technology, holidays, cars. The more consumer wants that can be satisfied, the higher the standard of living of<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-40 alignright\" style=\"margin-top: 0.857143rem;margin-bottom: 0.857143rem;margin-left: 1.71429rem\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/public\/n5businessmanagement\/uploads\/sites\/10132\/2022\/06\/01154442\/Picture1-300x286.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"166\" height=\"158\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/public\/n5businessmanagement\/uploads\/sites\/10132\/2022\/06\/01154442\/Picture1-300x286.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/public\/n5businessmanagement\/uploads\/sites\/10132\/2022\/06\/01154442\/Picture1.png 367w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 166px) 100vw, 166px\" \/>\u00a0the consumer.<\/li>\n<li>The government <em>may<\/em> provide some non-essential products eg transport, but most are satisfied by private organisations operating to make a profit by charging consumers a price.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>Goods and Services\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Goods and services are t<span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">he <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 1rem\">output<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\"> of business activity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Goods are <em>tangible<\/em> products which you can <strong>see and touch<\/strong> eg a computer, mobile phone, food items, clothes, DVDs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Durable goods<\/strong> last for longer than a year eg cars, houses, electrical goods. <strong>Non-durable<\/strong> goods last less than a year eg food, shoes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-41 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/public\/n5businessmanagement\/uploads\/sites\/10132\/2022\/06\/01154736\/Picture2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"131\" height=\"146\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Goods may be produced (manufactured) by <strong>private<\/strong> or <strong>public sector<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Services<\/strong> are products that an individual or organisation provides for you. These may be additional to those provided by the government eg the charity Help the Aged offering services to senior citizens on top of those offered by social services.<\/li>\n<li>A key difference between a good and a service is that goods are <strong>tangible<\/strong> \u2013 you can see and touch them &#8211; whereas services are <strong>intangible<\/strong> \u2013 you cannot touch them and sometimes you cannot even see them eg electricity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Outline the role of business organisations in society Business organisations are producers of goods and services.
