\"\"<\/a>I have always viewed Dalintober PS & ELC as a \u2018community\u2019 school, in its truest sense.\u00a0\u00a0 Our commitment to ensuring that we actively communicate with parents and partners and include them in our curriculum and social planning and implementation is essential to our schools\u2019 & ELC ethos.\u00a0\u00a0 This has grown to include the second school that I recently became Head Teacher of \u2013 Glenbarr PS.<\/p>\n

We have always had very solid foundations and relationships with our parents and communities, but I can truly say that the \u2018lockdown\u2019 period has only strengthened these connections.\u00a0\u00a0 Engagement and discussion has been a constant feature of our overall strategy during lockdown.<\/p>\n

We had intended to investigate Google Classrooms as part of our 3 year School Improvement Plan \u2013 but \u2018lockdown\u2019 certainly expedited this!\u00a0\u00a0 The commitment and energy of staff, pupils and parents in taking forward our new digital learning systems has been, quite simply, outstanding.\u00a0\u00a0 We have worked together to find ways to offer devices and support, including phone consultations \u2013 and with the help of partner agencies in the Children & Families Team and the Kintyre Community Resilience Group.<\/p>\n

We have very successful school Facebook Pages, including a closed ELC Parent\/Carer & Staff Group, and these have continued to be the main vehicle in recognising and celebrating achievements, sharing good news stories and information.\u00a0\u00a0 Parents are incredibly supportive of our social media pages and there are lovely interactions on a daily basis.\u00a0\u00a0 We have ensured that we have a \u2018virtual\u2019 final term, keeping many of the events and activities that would normally occur at this point in the school year \u2013 this has included \u2018Virtual\u2019 Assemblies, \u2018Virtual\u2019 School Photo Day, \u2018Virtual\u2019 Sports Day, \u2018Virtual\u2019 School Trips \u00a0and Music Festival Week and on-going transition activities.\u00a0 Posting and sharing photos, as we normally would, has helped us maintain a positive and feel-good link with the community and parents at this unprecedented time.<\/p>\n

We have also continued to work alongside local partners and businesses \u2013 this has included Shopper-Aide, the Great Lockdown Quarantine Quiz, Roots of Empathy, and Glen Scotia & Springbank Distilleries and may others \u2013 including upcoming interviews with \u2018noted Campbeltonians\u2019 such as best-selling author, Denzil Meyrick and musician\/composer, Lorne MacDougall.<\/p>\n

I very much believe in being open, honest and approachable to parents and the school communities.\u00a0\u00a0 There is nothing more powerful than human connection and maintaining that connection \u2018virtually\u2019 has been one of the most enjoyable aspects of my working week \u2013 both prior to, and during lockdown.<\/p>\n

Our school buildings may be closed; but our schools\u2019 & ELC ethos continue to thrive.<\/p>\n

We thank everyone involved in helping us achieve and sustain this.<\/p>\n
