{"id":13311,"date":"2021-08-13T10:04:45","date_gmt":"2021-08-13T09:04:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/digilearn\/?p=13311"},"modified":"2021-08-13T10:04:45","modified_gmt":"2021-08-13T09:04:45","slug":"running-an-esports-club-british-esports-association","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/myexampleblogversion2\/2021\/08\/13\/running-an-esports-club-british-esports-association\/","title":{"rendered":"Running an Esports Club &#8211; British Esports Association"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Esports (or electronic sports) is a term used to describe competitive video gaming.\u00a0<\/b>With\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.internetmatters.org\/hub\/esafety-news\/play-your-child-at-their-own-game-this-summer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">81% of children playing video games online<\/a>\u00a0nowadays, games are arguably a larger part of their lives than ever before.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/britishesports.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"0\">The British Esports Association (BEA) <\/a>is a not-for-profit national body established in 2016 to promote esports in the UK, increase its level of awareness, improve standards and inspire future talent. As a national body, their aims are to support esports and provide expertise and advice.<\/p>\n<p>They help to educate parents, teachers, media, policy makers and government around what esports is and what its benefits are. BEA aim to:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Promote\u00a0esports in the UK and increase its level of awareness<\/li>\n<li>Improve\u00a0the standard of UK esports<\/li>\n<li>Inspire future talent<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There has been lots of work with colleges in Scotland so far but the BEA are keen to support more schools setup, deliver and develop esports clubs for children and young people. Running an esports club is about more than playing games, there is the setup of equipment, recruitment of friends and peers, and all the digital literacy required to produce videos of their games.
